I think too many people are focusing on Rex Ryan while ignoring the obvious elephant in the room. Does anybody disagree that passing offense was our biggest weakness this year? It was disgraceful, because our QB regressed big time and put up rookie year like numbers. Matt Cavanaugh was brought in along with Sanchez in 2009 with the sole purpose of developing Sanchez from a college QB with little experience into a starting NFL caliber quarterback. Sanchez has become a turnover machine, but when you look at his career as a whole, he only had 1 good year with turnovers. 2010. Every other year he put up big turnover numbers. Why can't Cavanaugh correct this problem? I understand if he's gotta throw the ball away, but he rarely does and often delivers passes late or in the wrong direction. He shows poor footwork, and poor decision making. You'd think working with the guy for four years, you'd be able to correct SOME of those things. They are coachable mechanics, but Sanchez still looks like a rookie. Then there's also the fact that Sanchez was SO bad, yet still the best QB on the team. Cavanaugh SUCKS.

I know we have injuries, but to regress all the way back to rookie year level numbers is inexcusable. There's no question in my mind that Matt Cavanaugh deserves the axe. For those who aren't familiar. Cavanaugh was an OC with 3 other teams before he came to the Jets as a QB coach, something he hadn't done in before in his career. He is also an assistant coach. He failed in his one major task on the team, so he's gone. If we are planning to draft another QB or bring in a young one with upside, I want him as far away from Cavanaugh as possible.

No doubt about it. This morning when the Tannenbaum thread came out I was asking if Cavanaugh and Bradway were gone too.

If we are revamping the entire offensive side of the ball then Cavanaugh and Bradway are the two most obvious names in addition to Tanny to be gone.

I've mentioned before that 95% of Cavanaugh's job was to bring Sanchez along. If you hired a full time spanish tutor for your kid and after four years he still couldn't order lunch at Taco Bell, you'd fire him, wouldn't you?

    I'd b amazed if he wasn't fired.
Jets need to sort out GM and OC before they get to QB or position coaches tho. give it a little time.

Pretty much like Sanchez. In 14 years he played in 112 games with a QB rating of 71.7 and a completion rate of 52.7% for 4332 yards. He had 28 TD's and 30 Int's; surprisingly, he had no fumbles - too bad he couldn't teach that but he only rushed 60 times and the stats don't show any rushes into the butts of his linemen.

I dunno how much Cavanaugh has to do with how shitty Sanchez is, but if you aren't part of the solution, then you are probably part of the problem. He's a goner.

Matt Cavanaugh will not go anywhere , he is one of Rex's guys. The best thing for our offense is for the new GM to fire the whole lot HC included and start over.

Matt Cavanaugh should be shown the door, no doubt.

But let's not forget what he's working with here. I've said for three years that Sanchez is one of those players that simply doesn't respond to coaching.

Whomever the Jets bring in to replace Cavanaugh, he will have a tough task if Sanchez is the starter.

I kinda expected Tanny, Sparano and Cav all do get the axe but two of them still remain.

Don't fuck this up on us Woody.

He was a game manager, that's what he knows and that's what he develops our QBs to be. Don't ever expect a great QB to be developed under his tutelage.

I'll never understand why Rex kept this guy when Shotty left. Should've flushed the entire Offensive coaching staff away.

I think these decisions will be made by the new GM with some input from Ryan. If the new GM is worth a damn, he'll recognize Rex's fault of letting loyalty get in the way of sound judgement regarding his staff and make the final call.

I do see quite a turnover in the CS this offseason. If not now, then after the debacle that will surely be the 2013 season, look for Woody to nuke Jets HQ. and finally clean house. He can ill afford another season as bad as 2012.

My biggest peeve was that they brought the guy back in 2012 after trying to give his job to 3-4 other people.

How incentivized do you think he was to do a good job with Sanchez ???

He and the rest of the coaching will be fired once a new GM is hired.

None of these guys are coming back. That is why Rex didn't fire Sparano - he doesn't have that authority. That is also why any talk about Rex coaching in 2013 being a condition for the new GM is BS. You don't hire placement firms and put those caveats in place for prospective GMs. Also Rex doesn't have any input on the new GM when he doesn't have the authority to fire any coaches.

When the new GM comes in, he should be smart and send Sparano and Cavanaugh out the door. I would like to see Chad Pennington replace Cavanaugh as the QB coach
