#6 Joe Namath Namath's guarantee that the Jets would win Super Bowl III over heavily favored Baltimore is all you need to know. Broadway Joe delivered a 16-7 victory, shifting the balance of power between the NFL and AFL and paving the way for the merger. Namath loved playing under pressure and won several big games for the Jets. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/multimedia/photo_gallery/0608/gallery.NFLclutchqbs/content.5.html
it's too bad it was windy the following year aginst KC in the playoffs. we would have had 2 Super Bowl Championships in a row
I don't think the Jets would have defeated the Raiders in the AFL title game, had they gotten past the Chiefs. The Raiders did beat the Jets 27-14 in Shea Stadium in the regular season and the Raiders were a better team than the Jets in 1969 by most measures. In 1970 they met at Shea Stadium again and the Raiders won 14-13 on a last minute pass to Warren Wells. John Madden claims (or claimed at one time, at least) that that was the greatest catch he ever saw. The list for those who don't care to click on the link: 1. Montana 2. Unitas 3. Elway 4. Brady 5. Starr 6. Namath 7. Marino 8. Graham 9. Aikman 10. Bradshaw The only problem I have with it is Staubach is nowhere to be found.
I believe Staubach deserves to be on there in 10th. Bradshaw should be 9 and Aikman should be 11. Montana is a solid number one.
Ho. Lee. Crap. Let's play one of my favorite Sesame Street games: One of these guys is not like the others. One of these guys just doesn't belong. Can you guess which guy is not like the others Before I finish my song. ____________________________________________________ One of those quarterbacks has NO BUSINESS on that list. He's the only one of the bunch missing one BIG friggin' thing. Anyone?
I have a book that has old Football articles and found this one. I'm assuming it's from a New York newspaper
You've earned yourself a Coke, GM. He's the only flippin' quarterback on the list never to win a championship and, he's NUMBER SEVEN?!!! Ahead of Terry Bradshaw, Otto Graham, and Troy Aikman - who between then hold NINE championships. That's insane.
The more I think of this list, the more I'm not liking Marino on it and I'm not crazy about Aikman. Staubach deserves to be on the list. Bobby Layne maybe should be #10.
The Jets were trailing 6-3 in the 4th quarter and had a 1st-and-goal at the 1 yard line. Two runs and a pass failed. Jim Turner kicked a seven yard field goal to tie the score. Then the Chiefs scored to take a 13-6 lead. The Jets still had a chance late, but Mike Battle muffed a punt and that was that.
My telescope is generally focused on your wife. You step into the view, now and then. P.S. It's your favorite beer for good reason. Mine as well.
Hehehe, Dan THE CLUTCH Marino. Actually, if you gave him the ability to play-fake, or even to hand the ball off well, he might've deserved to be somewhere near that list in an alternate dimension.
