At half time, South Sudan was ahead. I thought this was another betting related surprise score but watching the link, it looks like South Sudan almost won. I have no idea how this happened. @abyzmul you follow basketball. Do you think USA will win gold medal or no?

Probably, I haven't thought about it because I think I always thought it sucked what they did to the Olympics by replacing competitive young athletes with entitled millionaires who showed up to the games hungover and stoned out of their minds. (The Dream Team).

I don't really care if they take gold but the international players are pretty damned good and have been for decades. American pros are so used to being called with "superstar rules" that I'm not even sure if it's the same game they are playing now. They don't even know when they are committing a foul. It doesn't apply to them here.

Very clear. Thank you. At some point there was this 23 year old age limit in team sports but now for money they allow Pro's play in the Olympics. This is against the spirit of Olympics but who cares. Let the money flow.

Speaking of American sports, I turned on the tube this morning and on the guide, ESPNNews had this stellar lineup of programming:

    Mullet Championship (hair not fish)
    Foosball championships
    Competitive auctioneers

There's got to be something resembling actual sports. It's competitive auctioneering. What the fuck.

I was rooting for the Sudanese and they should be proud of their performance. They were playing hard and amazing. That 18 year old 7 footer they have has a bright future

the US is not taking it seriously though... (yet?) The line change substitutions are dumb, everybody gets minutes like this is little league. They are drawing up plays so their worst shooters can take 3s and not drawing up plays to feature their best shooters.

I think if you are really desperately trying to win you go out there with 2 world class shooters in Curry and Tatum, have Embiid pick and roll with them. The other two guys are LeBron and Anthony Davis as they have chemistry together. That lineup plays the majority of the minutes and we wreck the world

Didn't know all these players you mentioned are on the team really. If that's the case I think USA will win the Gold medal.

Ah, Basketball, the me, me, me, me, me, me game. Those self-centered fools deserved taking bronze in '88 and '04. Gold, see how I laugh.

I hope they get super complacent as is their wont and don't even medal at all. Personally, I'd rather watch Martin Short synchronized swimming skits.

Spesking of BB, I find the sports politics really odd over why Caitlin Clark isn't on the women's U.S. Olympic Team. I have read so many articles that my eyes are bleeding, but I still call bs about SOMETHING.

She doesn't have experience, she's been playing hard for 8 months, she won't have chemistry with her teammates, she'd only get 5 mins of playing time, she has no time to practice, she is playing against the Olympic team for experience and has a great future in the Olympics, etc. it is all over the map.

Logic tells me she wouldn't sink the team even with 5 minutes of playing time. Something doesn't add up. I'm starting to think that she is somehow seen as weirdly polarizing and people hate her for no reason.

Oh, waaaaaiiiiiittttt, she may be invited after all. I read that, too. I don't believe anything I read anyway, but Holy Shit.
