i think clemens needs to be on the team...he sat behind favre and learned from all that experience...i agree we need a mentor but if we sign a vet then we are getting rid of clemens....sanchez hasnt stepped on a field yet and if he busts then i would be good about clemens stepping in lets sign ryan leaf and tell sanchez..."do the opposite of everything he does and youll be fine"
I doubt Clemens has much of an incentive to show Sanchez the ropes or teach him all that he learned from Favre. He's in competition with the kids, so he's going to do what he can to come out on top. Once he loses the competition (which he most certainly will - Woody isn't ponying up the dough to have Sanchez sit on a bench for 2 seasons) he will come to accept his role as a backup.
i really do believe clemens deserves a chance to start somewhere...and i feel bad for the guy because hes never gotten a legit shot....but im a jets fan not a clemens fan so oh well...
Pennington. His deal was 1 year correct? aftr, Clemens and Sanchez should be given equal opportunities for the position
This year Clemens will start.. if he plays well next year he'll be traded, if he plays decent he'll be either kept as back-up or released and if he plays shit he'll be cut and we'll bring in a veteran like Pennigton... easy! PS for this year Matt Cavanugh will be the "veteran"...
This is what we all should be rooting for IMO. I like the Sanchez pick and I'm excited as hell we may have a blue chip franchise QB, but I want him to learn for a year. We also want to be able to franchise clemens and get something for him in trade value.
Exactly... plus he's been in the system 4 years... he cannot screw it up THAT much can he!? This year we have a difficult schedule, I don't want to throw Sanchez in the crossfire and possibly loose out on our big investment. And also remember that he's a junior so he is more inexperienced... I mean, if a stud like Carson Palmer had to sit a year why shouldn't Sanchez? Clemens will earn his chance to play and show what he is worth... and Sanchez will mature and be ready for 2010.
this is the answer..... he's sat behind HOF QBs when he was playing, was the OC of the 2000 Ravens, etc.. his track record is better than Daboll and Schotty when they were QB coaches... QB coaches are important.
I don't think Clemens will purposefully sabotage Sanchez but obviously I can't know for sure. Bottom Line Clemens (rightfully so) will be opening day starter and by week 5 Sanchez will be in.
I say let KC and Sanchez compete for the starting job on day 1. I assume Clemens wins that competition. Let Clemens start and if he and the Jets stink by midseason, start thinking about Sanchez. If not, let Clemens take them as far as he can in 2009. Best case scenario - Clemens and the Jets do well and we have a nice "problem" to deal with in 2010 with one QB who just played well and another who was a number 5 pick.
