Thomas is a bust and should have not been given a new contract.
If the Jets are to draft Gholston or even Chris Long as his replacement, will a guy with such a huge contract be benched? How can we get this guy off the team, so that we don't need to pay him?

he is a total bust and the extension was REALLY stupid. However, with the huge signing bonus they foolish gave him the cap hit is unreal. For once admit a really bad signing and cut him and move on.

Sorry, I'm in the camp of "He did well on the other side". He was effective only one time in his career, and that was playing the weak side outside linebacker position. Put him back there and see what happens.

Yeah, Thomas is unique in that he fooled 2 different coaching staffs into drafting/rewarding him with ridiculous money. Kinda weird that one guy is able to swindle the same team twice...

Where do you guys get this stuff? Thomas played the same position he played last year which is LOLB in the base 3-4 defense which sometimes is strong or weakside depending on how the offense lines up. The truth is that while the coaching, FO and many of us thought his play last year was a result of a position change, it was actually more because it was a contract year. Don't make excuses just accept it. I tip my hat to BT he fooled us all.

He switched sides this year. He was at ROLB last year, Hobson at LOLB. They tried switching the two this year, it didn't work.

^^^^ Basically it would do him and us better if he was rushing the less moblie RT and a guy like Vernon was over the LT??? I would buy that........or did I get that backwards???LOL

That's where I am at the moment. The argument for not doing this is that he's only an average 3-4 ROLB. Well, right now I'd take an average guy there over what we have.

OK, so Gholston could be on the left with Thomas on the right. Works for me. Thomas was great in '06.

Exactly, and it was NOT a contract year. His current contract was extended based on excellent play in 2006. If you put a guy like Gholston opposite him, he'll have another great year in 2008.

Hopefully, the JETS can swindle some other NFL team in giving up a second round draft pick for Bryan Thomas's useless services.

I'm in that camp too. I guess that means B. Thomas swindled me as well. But I do like the thought of 265lb Gholston on the left and 266lb Thomas on the right. More weight in the box to keep us from getting pushed around.

I think he can be effective if we can get another pass rushing threat to distract teams from him.

Exactly. He's Shaun Phillips, not Shawne Merriman. He is "the other guy".
