I just wanted to throw out there that this was my first Jets game and anyone who left missed a good time at the end. The last two minutes of the game was like a giant party that lasted until well after the game finished. It was one of the most fun experiences of my life and I can't wait to do it again. Pennington was swinging his arms like he had a towel and Kerry Rhodes was along the sideline getting people pumped up after the game. Definitly a great experience.
I noticed the empty seats and while I didn't mind all that much, I just thought that is would be awesome to just party in the stands when the Jets clinched a playoff spot.
Kowie and 3rd said it best, the fans were there and loud when it counted, but this is a holiday that many people have parties for and do a lot of planning for and they had the most bodacious luxury of the Jets putting away a bad team early and they took advantage of it. Yes, the Packers fans stay there to the end. And they click for cans great, too. That's because their central nervous systems are all tied into the Packers supercomputer, and they have no choice. They file out of the stadium like ants and never so much as brush each other's elbow, all while simultaneously clicking for those cans.
There was actually no traffic coming home today (via Lincoln Tunnel to Queens). After I got out of the lot, it took 45 minutes to get home, which is nothing. Fans were great, but it's too bad it was empty at the end. It was a great party.
I just Got home from the game.... WOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!! I never leave... I would normally bitch about the seats @ the end but here is a Huge Concert and Party in Time Square and all the Folks going to Long Island have to deal with that shit.... or at least thought it would be a nightmare. There was electricity today though!!!
COOL! THAT'S why I would have stayed. I'm not hatin on those who left as much as feelin sorry for them at having to miss an experience that--as we all know too well--doesn't happen all that often.
i left the game early today and i got home in an hour and 5 minutes and i live in long island no traffic at all i stand until we were up by 20.
Traffic (edit: to NY) wasn't bad at all today, I'm glad I stayed until the end. Definitely a party atmosphere in the last two minutes. But when I saw the empty seats I knew someone would make a thread about it, but I was too happy to care.
Worst traffic day ever. Doesn't help that I stayed until 10 minutes after the game ended, but worst traffic ever getting onto the turnpike. Took almost an hour to get 200 yards from the stadium to get on 3 to the Turnpike, but the Turnpike was easy, except for you damn New York drivers who feel that they should go 65 or 70 in the left lane and hold up traffic for 2 miles.
I'm going to side with the guys who aren't dogging fans today. I beat on people who leave a lot, but today is an exception. Now it sounds like the traffic was not too bad for most. But let's be honest, for anyone who has been to at least a handful of Jets games in their lifetime, it's one of the worst places to get out of, post-game. I'm sure the vast majority of the people there figured that the normal traffic, plus all the traffic for New Year's Eve (keep in mind, LIers have to cross over Manhattan to get home,) is a recipie for a 4 hour ride home. If you're picking on fans today for leaving, in an absolute blowout, with the huge potential for severe traffic, you are just nitpicking.
Since most people were scared of Manhattan traffic, that route was wide open. Plus, people drinking on New Year's Eve will (hopefully) be taking public transportation.
I just got home from the game and i stayed to the end...I sat in over an hour of traffic...wish i left earlier.
i stayed about 15 minutes after it was over cheering along with the others that stayed. chad was really pumped. i got some video of the aftermath of eric getting hit with gatorade.
traffic was a mess for me... my lane to leave the parking lot wasn't moving luckly no one was behind me so i could back up and move further down to get out.
I stayed until the last snap, then went down to the first row from my seats and applauded all the Jets leaving the field. Its New Years, you have to give some people a break, but it could have been more exciting to see more people stay. The ones who did though were great, JETS>>>>>
