Darryl Slater @DarrylSlater · 3h3 hours ago Todd Bowles says the Jets are working Brian Winters as the second-team center to establish some depth. http://www.nj.com/jets/index.ssf/2015/04/jets_todd_bowles_addresses_media_before_nfl_draft.html
I think it has more to do with determining if Winters only value is as a guard or if he can provide flexibility of multiple line positions as a backup.
Winters might actually make a good Center & I recall others on here calling for this move last season. He's quick off the snap & very good movement to the 2nd level.Good qualities for a center given the usual space in front of them. But he struggles with engaging & anchoring. He's awful in fact. He would rarely if ever be asked to anchor at center & instead would help w/ double teams..something he might actually be very good at given his above average lateral movement. And hey, if he doesn't work out he can be released at the end of camp as the posterchild failure of the John Idzik drafting experience.
I believe that you owe Wayne Hunter an apology. Winters is our worst starting offensive lineman since Adrian Clark.
This has a lot more to do with Brian Winters than it does for what we do in the draft, Dalton Freeman, and everyone else being discussed ^. He was a 3rd round pick who is now behind Colon, Carpenter, Oboushi, and maybe even more. This lets us know if he has the versatility to deserve a roster spot. I like it.
I agree completely. Great post. He would make a better center than guard. I am also encouraged the staff does this in their 1st practice, shows me they are doing their homework
I think Woody Johnson would love this idea, this way on the pre game show and the week before the game the media can speculate on Jenner all week.Id go even further and make him team captain
Brian winters is a disaster, he never improved as a guard and he had 2 of the best linemen in the NFL on each side. I can understand the depth aspect of it from a team point of view, they are trying to use the pieces they have, but it still does not take away from the fact that he, Hunter and Clark are tied for worst Jet OL.
Shouldn't be far. Maybe Falcons at 8. Supposedly they want a pass rusher. Giants are also reportedly interested in Peat but that could be a smokescreen toward us.
interesting take.. you might be right on that. i don't believe Winters has ever played Center tho, so would be quite a learning curve for the former college T. it's make or break year for Winters. man, i was so optimistic on that pick. really thought he'd be a contributor on this line for years. pass protection just hasn't been nearly good enough tho..
i think the Peat interest around the league is real. the talking heads were just slow to catch on. he'll be selected in the top 10. Giants and Rams very possible landing spots if he gets that far. He was one of the first players the Jets brought in to workout.
Its def real. Scheriff seems to be the preferred choice in terms of olineman but taking a guard that early is risky. Im usually not into taking olineman that early but if Cooper is gone I wouldnt mind taking Peat. Seems like a safe choice.
