Round 1 Vic Beasley OLB Clemson - I must preface that this pick has to be Beasley or Cooper. Both these players are certain studs who will make an immediate impact. If both are still available it is a tough and close decision. Although Cooper is the closest to a sure thing we may ever see, I give the edge to Beasley because the signing of B.Marsh and depth of the WR position makes an OLB of Beasley's level a rarer commodity. - He is a physical freak. His measures are on Clowney's level. He is so clearly athletically superior to the other top rated OLB prospects that it should be a no brainer. - His tape backs up the measureables. He is that guy that is causing havoc on every play. He is the guy that the opposition needs to gameplan against. Most importantly, his play excels against the tougher competition. - He's a perfect fit for what this team needs. A sack artist. Round 2 Brett Hundley QB UCLA - I realize this is an unpopular choice, both on these boards and in the mainstream. I think its a blessing that he is so undervalued because as an NFL prospect he is on par, if not better, than Mariota. The value at QB is here so I would take him in the 2nd. - Athletically Hundley is clearly superior to Winston and almost as good as Mariota Winston: 40: 4.97 / vert: 28.5 / broad: 103 / 3 cone: 7.16 /20 yd: 4.36 Hundley: 40: 4.63 / vert: 36 / broad: 120 / 3 cone: 6.93 /20 yd: 3.98 Mariota: 40: 4.52 / vert: 36 / broad: 121 / 3 cone: 6.87 /20 yd: 4.11 - As a passer Hundley is criticized as being a short passer but he makes medium and long throws more often than Mariota and is decently accurate with his deep balls. He is a better traditional passer than Mariota and a more accurate one than Jameis. - He showed constant improvement through the years into a pass-first QB. He ended his career as UCLA's all time leader in TD's and total offense. He is high character and work ethic is not a question. -While Mariota may have a higher ceiling, his floor is lower. The risk of where he would need to be selected cannot be justified. Hundley on the other hand is a much more solid prospect. His chance at elite status is slimmer but he's almost a sure thing to be a worthy NFL starting QB. Round 3 David Johnson RB Northern Iowa - He is the most all around athletic RB in this class. 6'1, 224lbs and he destroyed the combine. He was a top performer for each event. Clearly has the size and athleticism to be a successful pro runner. - Tape shows a decisive and shifty runner. Has a great cut back that he likes to use. - His pass catching abilities are sensational for a RB. His hands are excellent, he is like a WR playing out of the RB position. He wasn't just catching screens or passes out of the backfield, he was running WR-like routes. I was watching one game and he made a leaping one handed catch in traffic - wow. - Like the Beasley selection, he is a perfect fit for what the Jets need. Round 4 Chris Conley WR Georgia - He is 6'2, 215 lbs with a 4.35 40 and a 45 inch vertical. That is amazing. He is going so low because his stats just weren't there. Now before everyone starts yelling Stephen Hill let me say Conley is not Stephen Hill. Conley has good hands and body control. His QB last year was garbage level bad and I think that's why his stats are poor. - His routes are not very smooth. Despite his size and freakish athleticism he is not going to be a #1. What he is though is guy you send deep to blow the top off. Would be a perfect compliment to our corp. Round 7 Mark Glowinski OG West Virginia - Big and strong. Good Road grader. Gets knocked for his poor pass pro but he is a transition from OT and still learning the position. Solid late round lineman to keep and develop/have on hand for an emergency. Round 7 Jake Waters QB Kansas State - May likely go undrafted. So why am I picking him? Because he's completely underrated. I would take him higher easily but I don't think he's on anyones radar. He's being overlooked because the mainstream has no clue about him, he's a little short, and he just had shoulder surgery. But, he played through the last ten games of his college career with the injury and his performance did not dip at all - he still completed 71% against the toughest competition. - Good runner; 484 yds and 9 TD's last year. - Not the strongest arm, but adequate. Quick release. Smooth mechanics. Good footwork. He is a good thrower. - Poor man's Russell Wilson
If you changed round 2 to BPA (or best OL available) I would like it better. Otherwise it looks pretty good to me.
I love the Beasley pick, and I'm happy with the rest, except Hundley. I'd rather get Grayson in the 3rd or 4th. Unfortunately I think Beasley is gone by our pick. We'll probably be able to take Cooper, though. If Mariota, Beasley and Cooper are gone by our pick, I'll be pretty disappointed. After that, we'd have to go either White, Fowler or Ray I guess.
I think its a blessing that he is so undervalued because as an NFL prospect he is on par, if not better, than Mariota. I found this quote about Hundley interesting. But does that say more about him or Mariota? I personally think both arent going to do much in the long term in the NFL , but would be pretty shocked if Hundley turns out as the equal or better pro. I think if we were able to get him in the late 3rd or 4th round (no chance) it might be worth a shot. But to risk a top 40 pick on him is way too risky to me. Love the other 2 of our top 3 picks. David Johnson is a beast
If those four are gone, that means we have Fowler, as Williams isn't getting past Oakland. I'll take that in a heartbeat.
I like this mock draft. Beasley could be the elite pass rushing specialist this team needs. Hundley is an intriguing prospect, but I'm not sure if I'd pick him in the 2nd round. It would depend on who else is available. For example, if Jake Fisher is on the board, I 'd pick him since he could be Brick's replacement. I'd love the Jets to draft David Johnson. I think he would be a great complement to Ivory. In the 4th round, I'd rather draft Hardy from ECU than Conley. I think Hardy is being overlooked in this draft, and could be a long term contributor as a slot WR. He reminds me of Jarvis Landry in last year's draft.
No on Hundley. We got a Hundley already on the roster and his name is Geno Smith. The rest of the players I never heard of them. I think there will be better valued players at the Jets spot in the draft. I would like Beasley and a pass rushing guy has been a need for years.
I'd be fine with Beasley. If he indeed became an impact, double-digit sack pass rusher, this defense would be perhaps the league's best. I'm just not a fan of Hundley. Way too many question marks, especially as a 2nd rounder. I'd be alright with David Johnson, but I'd much prefer a bunch of others over him. Good call on noting Conley is more than just a workout warrior despite his standout combine performance. I get the sense some team will take him in the 3rd though. Glowinski looks like a good prospect, but I'd like to see a young OT instead as they already have Aboushi, who wasn't bad last year, and Dozier, who many projected as a starter after he took a little time to adjust to a new position and the pro game. Plus Winters if that means anything (which to me, it probably doesn't). No young prospects at OT on this team though and I'd like one via the draft. Two QBs? Waters has desirable traits and I'd like him in the 7th though... Definitely more than Hundley in the 2nd. If that 2nd round pick is changed for an OT then I like this draft a lot more
I like your picks except this one. "not the strongest arm" is a red flag for me. I checked a scouting report which said he lacks zip on his throws. In the NFL, someone like this will get eaten alive by decent defenses. Not even as a backup candidate. Any QB drafted by an NFL team (IMHO) should be evaluated as a potential starter. This guy seems like another Brook Bollinger.
I like Beasley, but not at 6. I'd hope for Fowler, and in the (likely) event he isn't available, then Cooper or White. In rd 2, I take Petty over Hundley easily.
Thanks for the responses. I think Beasley is clear cut superior to the other OLB's. If he, Cooper, and White are gone then I would be looking at my options to trade down. It's not that I don't like Mariota or some of the other OLB prospects, I just don't think they are worth a top ten. A top ten pick should be a surely great player, not one who might just be decent. I stand by my Hundley selection. I think he will develop into a solid starter and for the value is the safest pick at QB this year. I don't think he's perfect or great/elite but I think he's good and in comparison Mariota has just as many question marks, if not more. I see Grayson and Petty more as backup caliber / borderline starter guys. The only other guy I would look at with a high round pick is Mariota but his price tag is too steep. This is a weak QB class in general but another guy I like is Taylor Kelly in a later round. His release is one of the quickest I've seen but he has accuracy issues. I would take the chance at trying to fix that.
I'm hoping the Browns trade up to our Pick (for Cooper perhaps) and we nab pick 12 and 19 from them. Pick 12 - Todd Gurley Pick 19 - Randy Gregory Pick 37 - Dorial Green-Beckham Pick 70 - Cedric Ogbuehi Pick 104 - Bryce Petty
Solid draft....except for the QBs. I like Hundley as a prospect, but I just feel that at #39 the Jets need to bring in someone who can contribute immediately. This team went form real young to real old, real fast. I'm not sold on ever taking 2 QBs in one draft, especially when you only have 6 picks. Love Beasley (he will be in my mock), love the Johnson pick.
