i think he was trying to address the fact that someone said we haven't really had a pass rusher since abe. he was trying to explain that it isn't like we haven't been trying to get pass rushers in here. there haven't been many elite pass rushers available to us at our picks in the draft. we picked d'brick 4th overall in 06 but if mario williams was available, you know we wudda pounced.
Oh, okay. Thanks. Well the point was why let an elite pass rusher go when you have one? Whether they chose Ellis over Abraham, or they just did want Abe, it was a mistake to get rid of him.
Dude... If you really believe that, you have not watched either guy closely. The only thing Mangold has on Mawae is age/future potential. Mangold has potential to be a better pass blocker, but he makes poor reads at the line all the time, and leaves huge gaps for passrushers to come free once or twice every single game. The most important thing about the C is that he's the captain of the OL- the guy who makes the calls and gets everyone squared away. Mangold just doesn't do that well- and Mawae does it as well as anyone- a huge reason why the players around Mawae tend to improve when he's in the game. Mawae is still better at getting out and blocking on outside runs, and even when someone gets the better of him physically on inside running plays, he's gritty/savvy enough to get into the dirt and give the skill players an extra second to make a play (which has been all the Titans' RBs have needed to excel). As current ability goes, Mangold is an average to slightly above average center and the most overrated Jet by a mile. Mawae is still a top-notch talent.
By no means is this a fair response for two obvious reasons: 1) Kevin Mawae, while still a GREAT center, is in the twilight years of a great career. Mangold isn't even in his prime yet. 2) In order for the Jets to have kept Mawae, they were going to have to pay him a lot more than they are currently paying Mangold.
I take it you missed the Tenn game? Or the fact that NE routinely goes outside against our line? (you know, Wilfork, Seymour et al...)
Oh OK. Thanks for clearing that up. Whoa whoa whoa...suddenly this is on Mangold? Even if I chose to buy this, wouldn't this be a matter of experience? Mawae is the Titans worst linemen. Not because he's bad now, but because that O-line is damn good. And logically, Mawae being a what...13 year vet?...would make him better at reading D's than Mangold. Mangold's still damn good at it, and he's near the top as a run blocker and a pass protector as a C. So does Mangold...thats what run blocking as a C is...could this typed up Mawae slob session be due to the play of the Titans O-line as a whole this season? Wow. You've got their descriptions reversed. You sure you've seen these guys play? Mangold is way better at the physical game of being a C at this point in their career. Mawae's 10+ year advantage in career length could probably explain why he's sharper in reading D's. I dont' think it's a huge advantage at all because Mangold is pretty damn good at that stuff already, and only has room to go up. I'd take Mangold over Mawae any day at this point in their careers. Mangold's overrated by Jets fans...lol...apparently anything thought of as "good" or better by Jets fans is overrated...even to Jets fans.
