I want to throw, throw, and throw more. I don't think our run game is consistent enough to just give it to them and avoid 3rd and longs and early deficits. Come out swinging in the pass game and get Geno on the move more because the OL struggled last game.

On the opposite side, double cover Smith as much as possible. You can still blitz and try to get Flacco out of the pocket, but try to stay away from single coverage on Smith and let that be how a minority of the plays end up

Problem is Geno is horrible at throwing the football.

It upsets me that the best shot they have at winning is if Geno doesn't throw the ball, they run for 200, and the defense scores 14 points - and I wonder how many players in that locker room feel the same way.

They were playing with that mentality the last year and a half except worse, so nothing new for them.

EDIT: Except the best chance is probably if Geno does throw early and often. Get out to a lead then take the air out of the ball. This OL while can put together a dominant performance like NO, can establish no run game and leave our already poor passing game into terrible situations.

I would agree -- i would say they are expecting the run so throw it down their throats and take the game, but I don't think Geno has the ability or confidence to do much right now and if he throws an interception on the first drive you can just turn the game off.

The last year with Sporano I think most people hoped the defense could just play 60 minutes and see what would happen

IMO opinion Geno was playing much better when we were throwing the ball at the beginning of the season than now when we're playing not to lose. He still made mistakes, but he produced much bigger plays.

I thought we would see a better Geno last week with Cumberland, Winslow, Holmes, Hill, Nelson, Ivory, and Powell -- but nothing.

I think we're fine if Smith throws an early interception. The problem is when he throws an INT down multiple scores, because then it just means more throwing with the defense sitting on pass.

Gotta strike early and often. The OL just isn't consistent enough to use them in 09 and 10 to set up the PA pass or the pass general. Gonna have to throw down the field even if it's out of bounds or incomplete and just force the defense to cover the whole field like they did earlier in the season.

Being in the WC race made the Jets a tad bit conservative and the shuffling of WRs led them to have a drop off and put themselves in deficits. They were down 14-6 and 21-10 to NE also which they ended up winning.

The problem isn't an INT it is when that INT is a pick 6 or deep in Jet territory which is a killer. Giving teams the ball in FG range at worst just destroys a team.

That's why I want to throw early and often. Geno and the Jets overcame the pick 6 against NE. It's when the Bengals got up 3 scores or Pitt a couple or BUF a couple, you really can't have turnover, but here we are in 3rd and longs really needing Geno to make a play. An early TO is whatever, it happens, later in the game though it becomes worse and worse especially when you already down a couple scores.

Which is why I want to flip the script and attack BAL through the air and get them on their heels.

EDIT: This is also why I'm not as down on Geno, yet. Last year we were getting one score games the defense kept one score and still getting multiple turnovers like ARZ and TEN. Geno had a game like that against NE where you could basically point to the missed INTs. But, the other losses, the defense was getting burnt over the top and it became multiple score games even without the turnovers. The turnovers just compounded the problems. It would be cool if Geno and the offense could comeback from 14-21 point deficits, but I mean they've already snatched a couple wins from the jaws of defeat with the most random players

Like when? Atlanta? They have one of the worst pass defences in the league, I think it's like bottom 3. And it was a nail biter. Glennon torched them for a blowout win last week. Name one other game where Geno threw the ball well.

You are being obviously ignorant of the TB game right? Geno's passing accounted for 199 yards of the 288 total yards the Jets had and all 3 TDs in the ATL game. He also had 21 rushing yards.

Glennon passed for 234 yards out of the total 410 yards TB had and account for 2 of the 5 TDs. Those TD passes were 4 and 3 yards when the game was 24-6 and then 31-6. He also had 4 rushing yards.

Completely different scenarios and that's ignoring the health/talent of ATL in our game vs the TB game (the second time because ATL beat TB the first time they played).

Geno also passed well against BUF too, had big plays to Kerley in NE x2 but overall passed decently, not great.

Buffalo's ENTIRE secondary didn't play that first game. Tampa Bay was a freakin hot mess of a team until a few weeks ago. And that was early in the season. Teams have tape now. What you see now is what it's going to be like going forward.

Yeah that tape really helped NE right? They had first hand tape of Smith's 3 picks and that did them great.

New Orleans had tape too and Geno in his limited attempts were able to find Nelson and Sudfield for pickups on the scoring drives. They took the air out of the ball in the second half of that game.

If the Jets get down multiple scores, early then yeah this what we should expect. If not I think we see more of NE game 2 from Geno and the offense. Basically, still mistakes from Geno, but Geno still finding receivers.

Having Holmes back is very important but losing Kerley is really bad especial on 3rd down. Hopefully Winslow and cumberland can get back in the swing of things

EDIT: And you can explain away why Geno threw well, but the question was when was Geno throwing the ball well. Those were times he was throwing it well, that can't be debated. The discussion is more why but the argument if he threw well is still being questioned for whatever reason in addition to trying to explain why

With our moron coach, what chance do we have?

The jets have 4-3 personnel, and only 2 true linebackers are any good (Harris and Davis), and yet still Rex plays his hybrid 3-4. If he played Coples on DL (where he belongs) ALL YEAR with Richardon, Wilkerson, and Harrison/Ellis, he would not need to blitz as much. Then they would not be in zero coverage so often getting torched. Oh, that's right Rex is the defensive genius--that's why Cincy put 49 points on us, and then Buffalo scored 37 WITHOUT their starting two WRs. Had anyone ever heard of Cincy's WR Marvin Jones before defensive genius Rex made him look like Jerry Rice? He turned Eli Manuel into Kurt Warner. A good coach adjusts his schemes to the personnel he has--Rex's decision to make the players fit his schemes isn't working. I (still) can't wait for Rex to be fired. Replace him with who? Anyone who plans his schemes around the personnel he has, not the reverse. In a 3-4 defense the DL are supposed to "block" for athletic linebackers who make the tackles. The jets use #1 picks THREE YEARS IN A ROW on the DL and Rex plays a 3-4 defense???? Moron. When you draft athletic DL in the 1st round like Wilk, Coples, and Richardson, most smart coaches would use ALL OF THEM ON THE DL in a 4-3 gap-penetrating defense--Check out the 2013 POINTS ALLOWED section in tomorrow's newspaper and tell me again Rex is a defensive genius. so these are the "good" passing games you are referring to:

    1/3 vs Saints 42.1 CMP % 115 yds 0 TD 0 Int 62.4 rating

    10/20 vs Patriots 51.5 CMP % 233 1 TD 1 Int 71.9 rating

yea, that's not good dude. there's 3rd and 4th round picks out there that performed way better than this their rookie year

    on the year:

    56.3 CMP% 8 TD 16 INT

    since Atlanta:
    1 TD 8 INT

There's a reason they took the air out of the ball in that game. There's a reason why when NO had every man playing the run late in the game when we only needed a first down to keep it away from Brees, we still ran it. the reason is he's a bad quarterback and the more he throws, the more likely we are to lose.

Hmm. Oh, I don't think I'm a lot dumber than you thought that I think that I thought I was once.

The Ravens always seem to physically beat us up, so that's what I'm expecting. I know personnel has changed, but that team just has an aura of physicality. I'm betting Sanchez is glad not to be playing this one.

Those aren't the games I said he played good. You said expect the same going forward because teams have tape. However Geno wasn't playing terrible in NO or NE games when they had tape on him which is how he played in BUF. So that was my point there, that the tape doesn't necessarily mean we are getting what we just saw from Geno. I mean NE is the main point too, they had first hand tape of Geno playing terrible and next time up he threw the ball "decent" and played well (the runs were important).

I also said this earlier, so I'll repeat "NE x2 but overall passed decently, not great." and this about NO " Geno in his limited attempts were able to find Nelson and Sudfield for pickups on the scoring drives" I didn't refer to them as good passing games, unless I mistyped somewhere because you quoted good? I refereed to NE x2 as decent and NO I didn't even describe except limited throws.

They took the air out of the ball more so because Chris Ivory was having the best running game the Jets have seen in a while.

Also when we only needed first down up 9
4 6:24 3 11 NYJ 43 Geno Smith pass incomplete short right intended for Bilal Powell

The numbers are quarter, time left, down, yardage to go, LOS, play.

When we only needed a first down up 6

4 2:11 3 9 NYJ 30 Geno Smith pass incomplete short left intended for Stephen Hill

We ran the first two, gained -1 and 1 yard total on each drive and then put the ball in Geno's hands on 3rd and long. So we did try running on the first downs since we were ran for 168 on 27 carries, but we didn't take it out his hands, we put the ball in his hands to end the game. Part of this is because I think Rex and Co. are still suffering flashbacks to BUF where it was 3rd and 1 and 4th and 1 and we could not get a yard.

I don't think it's as simple as if we throw more, we are more likely to lose. If we throw more already down a few scores, we are more likely to lose, but we are also already down a few scores. But we also saw if we try to play conservative and not throw like in Pitt it can backfire and require us to abandon an existent or non existent run game.

That's why I think we need to attack BAL through the air early. If we try to hang around, maybe our D keeps it under control like NO or maybe they don't like CIN (remember the CIN INTs came in the 2nd half so it wasn't the bad INTs setting up the D for failure yet, they just played bad) and we are forced to throw against a defense that knows that with a rookie QB and a suspect OL with a receiver coming off an injury, a non existent WR, and receiver that joined the team in the middle of the season.

So that's what I want to throw early and try to dictate when we throw, rather than letting the other team put us in a position where they know we need to throw. We can use more of the field and catch the other team off guard for hopefully big plays. I'd rather try to flip the game and put BAL in a bad position than wait and hope our defense can keep it close and the run game gets going.

EDIT: Short version, I'd rather go down being aggressive than being conservative and forced to go to the air.
