I agree. It wasn't broke. However the natural, i.e. regional rivalries spoiled that. When Fla. State joined the ACC, it was a matter of time before Miami would join. Further, the Miami-Big East thing was really a temporary jump start to UM's once-defunct basketball program. UM joins the B.E. to give them football cred, the B.E. allows UM to sell their recruits on B.E. exposure (and a post-season tourney at MSG). And, Maryland belongs in the A.C.C.
I didn't say that you did want them. All I am saying is that I have no problem with any conference going after any teams they want.
Thanks Hack but I'm just guessing. I think St. Louis is a no-brainer because as you mentioned they're a major city (with a top 20 media market), plus they'd also provide more midwest 'company' for the likes of Creighton, Marquette, Butler and DePaul.
One of the reason was that the Southern Conference (like Notre Dame back in the day) didn't allow post-season play so a number of them up and left for the ACC.
Villanova beats Michigan! Refs gave Michigan a free timeout at the end with an unnecessary review, and they got exactly the play they wanted, but Pinkston with an incredible block
Well, we better update the numbers: With the Villanova win over Michigan, the Big East is now an astounding 36-2 In addition, the Big East notches yet another victory over a nationally ranked team and adds another Tournament Title to the mantle, it's third of the year.
Couple of huge wins. Last night showed how good the team can be and tonight showed how much having experience helps with late close games. Still need Hilliard to wake up and you saw some of bad Villanova show up with poor shot selection/all threes. But a lot to be encouraged by.
long way to go and I may pick Kentucky. I like to see how the season plays out. when UK won their title everyone thought Carolina would win and if not for injuries they most likely do. Many things can happen btw now and April.
