In 2016, Tannehill was 11th in passer rating. In 2018, he was 20th in passer rating. (He was hurt in 2017.) Those are league-average numbers. That the Jets haven't had a league-average QB in God knows how long (maybe 2015 Fitz counts but probably not) doesn't change the facts.
Yeah that could be a problem. If the Titans keep pace, they're okay. But if they fall behind, that takes Henry out of the game.
He played with Gase for 3 years. Coincidence that literally the very next year after he escaped Gase he started playing way better with improved stats in every category? Nah. Gase was holding him back.
Congrats to Houston. Their big guns stepped up when they needed it that's what it's about in the playoffs. Epic meltdown by Buffalo.
They were 2-4 when Tannehill took over for Mariota.* *Before other posters start jumping on me as a Tannehill nuthugger, I know full well he isn't an elite QB, and he's going to regress next season. Having said that, he's been significantly better in Tennessee than Miami, and I'm pretty sure getting away from Gase is part of the reason.
Buffalo was dominating. Then POOF just like that they lost. It's easy to say oh they're young, they'll be back but that's not the way it works. These losses can linger for a long time. It still stings when I think about the 2004 Doug Brien game or the 2010 AFC Championship game after they had beat New England. No guarantees in this thing.
Never said they're a lock to repeat however, they're in pretty good shape as opposed to having to rebuild the entire OL, WR corps and edge rushers. In other words, Buffalo is in much better shape than the Jets. They already know who they are on offense. We're still trying to figure it out.
