Mobile is good, but 3.16 release time is brutal though. That's Fields territory right there, whose main knock is that he can't get rid of the ball. in fact Fields had 3.11, LaNorris is even worse. Last year, which was a better year for LaNorris, he has 3.31 time to throw. Was his OL much better last year? Or he lost receivers? Maybe he had a better year because he had more time? But this year at least against Clemson protection looked fine to me until the very end.

I definitely see undeniable talent where I am probably taking him at the end of the 1st right now and taking a risk. But what's the likelihood he can he be a good passer in NFL if he takes that long to get rid of the ball in SC?

@Borat check it out. He looks awfully scared back there/navigates the pocket poorly.

Just to clarify, I said I would move up for Moore and only him, assuming he plays well next 3 games, not for Mendoza.

As far as the back-up, with 4 games left it's tough to find one, because everyone already signed one, there were a lot of injuries, and teams signed more. But generally to get a back-up is not that bad. I do not know why the Colts didn't already have one on the roster, that is mismanagement on their part. In fact, if we keep Tyrod, we may end up in the same situation: we assume we have someone to play a few games in the end in case something happens, and then he can't and we have to sign another QB anyway, like we just did Martinez. There is no point, Tyrod is done.

I feel you on the Moore thing...just dropping some emphasis.

The whole backup QB thing has really picked up the last 5 years-ish. For as much as the league does to protect these guys, the injuries at the QB position have really skyrocketed. It seems that nearly all teams are starting their backup for multiple games. Hell, it wouldn't surprise me to see backup QB's starting to land in the $20 mill per range here in the very near future. Definitely something to be cognizant of and manage for the future. I have to agree with you and others. My guess is this is Taylor's last year. Half the hits he took last week and the week before it looked like, on a number of occasions, that he wasn't getting up off the turf. When I see these guys doing the whole "pushup" position, with their legs locked out straight, while trying to get off the turf simply doesn't instill a great deal of confidence.

idk where you are getting your stats but are they cumulative over his entire college career? I just read an article today that shared that Sellers improved his time to throw to 2.92 after an extra long 1st year. So yeah I mean its alot but it was one of the few areas he improved this season

Thanks, JV. This was his worst game of the year, and still not awful. He has taken his game to the new level in the last month though. I am looking forward to watching the play-offs, particularly the QF match-up. Unfortunately the CFB Committee fucked up to match Oregon with some weak team next week, but QF should be really good. Ideally they win and face Indy in the Semis in the rematch.

I got them from PFF. entire last year 3.31, entire this year 3.16. So, yes improvement is there, but like you said still long, and also it came with worse production as compared to last year. So yes, he is releasing quicker, though still slow, but the result is also worse. It could be a function of having a better OL last year, not an actual improvement. I am not sure where you got 2.92, maybe it was at some point in the season? PFF ones are overall for the year.

I get it but there are only 5 teams in the Big Ten with comparable rosters so when he “lights” up Minnesota and Rutgers, the tape is irrelevant to me. He also looked like shit against Wisconsin and made two great throws against Iowa in the closing minutes (won’t hold the performance against him though, the game was a wash out).

I honestly think Maiava outplayed him in the USC game. USC badly lost the momentum battle in the second half when Maiava fumbled on that late 3rd down and they had to punt.

I thought he looked good against USC. Even that pick, I actually think the throw was not bad, maybe he should have waited a tad longer? But looked like a bad play design as WRs were too close together, so the DB defending the other WR was able to pick him off passing to his target. Still a good game there. I did not examine the other QB.

How about Washington, I though he was very good there too, and they are a good team, no?

They’re goodish but they’re well below the top 5 in Indiana, Ohio State, Oregon, Ohio State and Michigan. It’s a rivalry game though and Washington was the healthiest they’ve ever been so I agree we can give him a notch for that one.

They got outscored by OSU, Michigan and Oregon 74-27. 2/3 of those games were at home too.

I haven't been followitng the prospects closely this season but am starting to see a fair bit of hype arond Mendoza creeping into the wider NFL environment recently - I can totally see them trading up as I cannot see them wanting to go into next year without a QB and have another guaranteed losing season where there is nothing to get excited about and also the front office will be feeling pressure if the rest of the season continues to go downhill (it is not like the first Rodgers season where you could hang onto the idea that "once we get our QB next season it will all be good" as there isn't anyone to come back that gives that kind of hope).

I would happily trade all the first rounders for Joe Burrow if they could somehow make that happen.

Which running QBs are having a renaissance right now? I have a feeling all of the guys you're considering to be running QBs are more like guys who can run but only do it as a last resort. A far cry from Sellers where his main selling point is his athleticism.

The list of criteria I gave was a rough framework. Pickett had awful numbers his entire college career and then one good year prior to getting drafted. Will Levis was mediocre his entire college career. Same for Daniel Jones. Those guys may have fit the rough framework but listing them ignores the "prospect's stats need to be considered relative to the above criteria" part at the end of the post. I wasn't saying to draft guys with bad stats who happen to fit the criteria, just that the criteria helps ensure you aren't drafting a guy whose success was mostly due to others in college.

Is this true? In one of the games I watched with him this season the announcers mentioned that most of his yards this year have come on screen passes.

Another point on Sellers - he takes a lot of sacks. That is as glaring a red flag as there is for a QB prospect, the numbers on those guys working out in the NFL are awful. I know his OL has been beaten up but it's increasingly clear that sacks are just as much a QB stat as an OL stat.

Lamar Jackson maybe you've heard of him. Josh Allen has ran for more touchdowns than any buffalo bills player/running back of all time and they've had a couple hall of fame running backs like OJ Simpson and Thurman Thomas.

or last year's super champions, hoisted the trophy with a running QB

So two guys, both of whom are very good passers as well? You're comparing Sellers, the guy who has shown 0 ability to pass well in college, to them?

And again, Allen is the anomaly of all anomalies. For every Allen there are 100 college prospects like he was that never become good in the NFL.

He was 12th in yards/completion this year. I’ll try to find air yards but I don’t have any next gen subscriptions. I know yards/completion can be skewed by screens but his top receiver last year behind the tightend was Nyck Harbor (6’5”) and his top receiver this year Harbor. Not exactly a guy who eats up screen balls although the yards are pretty spread out.

i wasn’t comparing anyone to them. I said running QBs are having a renaissance and gave you a couple examples because you asked for that

simply incorrect and dumb as fuck to say Sellers has shown “0 ability to pass”

Unicorn Josh Allen aside, Sellers hasn't proven to be on a level of Hurts and Lamar just yet, who were Heisman runner up and winner respectively. That would be the next step for him. Transfer to another school and then see if you can do what Hurts and Lamar did in College. Then maybe we can possibly project for him to be something similar. And I think that's what Sellers will try to do, but that was @REVISion's point when he said currently Sellers is projection on top of another projection. And he might do it and be a star in the NFL, which is why I would gamble late 1st for him, but we have to acknowledge this is a big gamble with higher than usual risk as well.

The point is that 2 guys is hardly a renaissance, especially when both are good passers in addition to runners. If you look at the bulk of the evidence, or most of the best QBs, it is still very clearly a passing league.

There are 0 good QBs in the NFL that resemble what Sellers has been in college. You don't take projects with first round picks.

Well Josh Allen but I do always agree with you that he’s an anomaly.

And of course Sellers is a big risk and projection. You’re trying to project that the skillset doesn’t match the production mainly because of the team around him and the teams they faced.

I honestly think he plays a lot like Jaxson Dart. Dart obviously played a ton more football and is smaller in stature but the college tape looks similar.

As far as your rushing QB in the NFL, you’re missing Kyler Murray, Jalen Hurts, and Jayden Daniels fit the bill I think. Bo Nix runs around a lot before throwing the ball even if not committing to crossing the LOS. Daniel Jones best season of his career and playoff appearance saw him run for over 700 yards.

Jaxson Dart fits the bill in his young career. Justin Herbert has run for more yards this year than any year in his career and probably breaks 550-600 yards.

Not the greatest year to use all of those guys as an example and Herbert and Nix are obviously more so pure passers than runners but QBs are running more than ever.

Offensive lines are just worse or edge rushers are just better. Either way, the college offenses don’t allow offensive lineman to develop to pass protect for a long time because of the quick hitter offenses and it’s showing in their lack of development at the next level. So QBs have to be mobile.
