Who cares if a player gets a 3TD game? All that matters is that the team scores. It doesn't matter who.

I do, and apparently people who replied to the thread also care. If you don't care, then move along.

It's a team effort. Not a personal achievement award.

Then stop giving all this credit to Jones. I'm happy for the guy that now he can say he got 3 TDs in one game (Wow!). But please give us more than 60 yards rushing. I really hope you don't think his effort yesterday was good enough for us to make any kind of push in the playoffs.

Why shouldn't we give him credit for scoring 3 TD's? He scored 3 TD's didn't he? This has absolutely nothing to do with Jones' value to the team or whether or not he helps us make a playoff push. I'm not sitting here calling Jones a superstar or anything. No where did I say that TJ single handedly willed himself to 3 TD's despite a lousy team effort. I don't think there's anything wrong with "celebrating" his 3 TD game. I'm a fan and appreciate the accomplishment.

There have not been a lot of 3 TD performances by Jets players and I wanted to find out some historical info from some of the the more knowledgeable posters on this site (not you) about the Jets.

If it bothers you so much then don't read the damn thread. Actually I'd prefer it if you didn't read the thread. You're reading way to much into this. Actually if you read the damn thread you'd see that I gave a lot of credit to the team for the performance.

I don't know a lot about the Jets, but I know a lot about football in general which matters more.

My point still stands about TJ and the team, but I guess that's an argument for another thread so I'm outta here.

    Great post.

Where are all the TJ and LC haters now?!?! I told you guys all offseason that Jones and Coles would shut up every one up, and they are doing just that!!

Isn't that the game where Chrebet caught a TD but was ruled out of bounds on the replay? You're right, Becht played a role, too.

Okay, a number of people have asked me to chime in.

I will post the full list before I go to bed tonight . . . or tomorrow if I stump people tonight with the trivia questions posted below.

    ___

One player in franchise history accomplished the 3-TD feat while the team was known as the New York Titans. Who is this player?

Which Jets player scored 3 touchdowns in one game in successive weeks and then had three 3-TD games five years later? This player scored 13 touchdowns in a 6-game stretch one season.

I don't know who's ass you guys pulled Hasselhoff and Boitano out of but no, its not the right answer.

The right answer is of course, the person most responsible for the current status of the Jets as a contender and as a team that place fear in the hearts of the opposition.

    This person is of course,

    RICH CIMINI

Thanks to Dick's (may I call you Dick,,, thank you) constant pessimism the last two years and his constant criticism of every move the FO made, he undoubtedly motivated everyone from the front office through to the last undrafted free-agent signing, into performing better.

His blind eye and sparking pen have contributed largely to the current situation. Large contribution, Dick!

    Thanks for being you!

I'll throw my $.02 in. If different players are having multi-touchdown games it indicates to me that the coaching staff is recognizing what's working/what their strengths are against given teams and making the appropriate playcalls/adjustments. It actually gives reason for a lot of optimism. Herm was a great guy, but more often than not, failed to accurately assess his teams strengths/weaknesses against a given opponent. It seems Mangini is doing a much better job with this.

    /sorry for all the slashies

You don't say that they were with the team 5 years later and that is the clue that has given me a possible answer:

    John Riggins

The educated guesses above were incorrect.

I'll ask a few more questions and post some tidbits. I'll post the full list shortly after Without a Trace ends tonight.

There have been 29 three-TD performances in Titans/Jets history and 1 four-TD performance.

Which two players had three-TD games in the Super Bowl season? (One is an obvious answer. The other is not.)

Which player had 5 three-TD games?

    Which player had 4 three-TD games and 1 four-TD game? (that's easy)

True of false? The three-TDs-in-one-game feat was accomplished by a Jets player as often in the Kotite years as in the Parcells years.

Which NFC team was victimized by a three-TD Jets player in successive meetings (spread out over three years, though)?

I read this post and LOL'd cause it's true.

Jones didn't do anything spectacular or anything. He was just a cog in the machine for all 3. Iunno, great game for the guy and all, but the offense as a whole play great. Wasn't shit your pants, headline news amazing or anything...

^ Thank you Cakes. It looks like we have to go back to '72 for back to back weeks. The offense in '86 must have been pretty potent to have all those 3 TD performances (can't remember it too well).

I LOL'd too because I never gave Jones "all the credit" and did credit the entire team. The basis of the post was an incorrect assumption.

He did score 3 TD's and that's a nice accomplishment.
