He was 245 when I talked to him last Thursday. Maybe it was the bad food and polluted water from Lake Erie that affected his weight in Buffoonalo
Funny coming from the poster who claimed Maybin couldnt possibly hold onto weight... Which might I add he was at about 250 while in Buffalo but the CS wouldnt let him touch the field, then the next offseason he got pneumonia and lost about 30 pounds, which is the offseason Buffalo did us the pleasure in releasing him. Last year Maybin pretty much knew nothing of the playbook at the beginning of the regular season and only used a speed rush, you honestly dont think that his impact/playing time/production will increase with added weight, full knowledge of the playbook and a good repertoire of moves??? Get real man. He showed even last season that he could be more than just "run around the field in dime situations” guy with different moves to get to the QB. Itll be fun watching this guy torment offensive lines this season, and you can most definitely bet he will be ready to bring everything he’s got September 9th. Posts like yours just make you Bills fans sound real bitter...
Best part is, Maybin gets 2 revenge games a year, and as he improves, those games will get more and more fun to win. :buffaloblows:
Still won't top last year's sack. By that I mean: Maybin was still on Buffalo's payroll - so, in essence, he was paid by the Bills organization to sack their QB. (And he did!) What a nice piece of gold nugget.
1.) Maybin was never 250lbs in Buffalo. He got up to 250 1 time in his entire life, and that was at or near the combine. Like always, he couldn't hold that weight and he dropped down to less than 230 for camp that year. 2.) Maybin just "didn't lose weight because of pneumonia." Pneumonia cost him to lose weight from his already 220 lb frame. It didnt cause him to be behind the 8 ball, it caused him to be behind the 8 ball even further. Do you really think that an NFL training staff would not know that the guy had pneumonia? Of course they did. But it didn't matter because Maybin can't gain weight even without pneumonia. You keep talking about Maybin theoretically, I am talking about reality. Sure, in theory, "any guy who gains weight and adds a repertoire of moves" can be a good player. I'm not saying anything to the contrary. What I'm saying is that is not possible for Maybin to do. You will not accept that. It is not physically possible for Maybin to gain and hold the weight necessary to be an every down player.
Well Buffalo drafted him at the top of the 1st round, with expectations of him being an impact starter. To Bills fans, we didn't want him before the draft, didn't want him when we picked him, and don't miss him now that he's gone. It was only the idiots in the scouting department and our CEO playing GM who thought it'd be a good idea to draft him there. Those were unfair expectations to place on a guy who is just not good enough. We all liked how hard Maybin worked, and the coaching staff even said how much passion he gave toward getting better. First guy in last guy out type of player. It isn't Maybin's fault that idiot scouts drafted him where they did. In Buffalo camps and practices, they obviously expected him to be a starter (a joke of a coach in jauron). He couldn't play with the big boys in the running game and our 3rd string tackles (Ed Wang) were throwing him around like a little girl. It became apparent pretty quick they had made a mistake. As to why they didn't use him in the 3rd down role: Our new coaches expect anyone who isn't a starter to contribute on special teams. They put Maybin there and had to take him off because, again, he just wasn't big enough to play there. Paying a guy top 15 money (pre-CBA) was a lot to pay for a guy who couldn't start and couldn't play special teams. He seems to be a fine situational guy... but at a situational guy's salary - not what the Bills were paying him. You can get situational guys in the late rounds of drafts and not pay them very much, IMO.
Watching him run out of the play is painful but then 2 secs later to watch him catch up and force a fumble is all worth it
http://www.jetsinsider.com/blogs/christopher_nimbley/?p=2120 Im gonna take his word for it. Not yours. It seems like you fall into the category of “a lot of people don’t know" Your "reality" is obviously not the true reality. You keep saying its not physically possible, yet he’s held 250 once before in Buffalo as he has stated, and is doing so now. It seems like you can not accept that your CS and FO didnt get the most out of this young talent and that his greatest days are yet to come... Its funny to think where you come up with this stuff, because the guy obviously is open about his weight gaining. Im sure you and your fellow Bills fans have gone over his weight “issue” multiple times. You can go back there and justify it, but here, when Aaron Maybin himself has told his story and its obviously not what you say, the old bullshit “he cant gain weight and keep it on because he couldnt do so in Buffalo” isnt gonna fly.
If that is true then it proves my point further. He cannot hold his weight. What weight is he at now? He says he's "up to" 240. So apparently it has taken him 2 years to try and gain 10 lbs? He can't hold weight and I dont know what else to tell you. It happened at Penn State, it happened in Buffalo, and its happening with the Jets. The part about him being 250 one time makes the situation even more laughable because it means he still wasn't strong enough to sniff special teams or even 2nd string while playing at a larger weight. That's freaking crazy. I hope Maybin can stick in the league, because he's a good kid. And if Jets fans want to be excited that they have a solid situational pass rusher then that's good. But this nonsense about becoming some monster starter has got to stop. There really is only one argument I can understand. He is still in his early 20's. He has never been able to hold weight before, but maybe he is approaching time where his body will mature and he will be able to do it. I have no idea whether that is realistic or not, but can understand if that is the argument Jets fans want to hope for. It makes sense to me. But stop arguing and fighting that he has been able to hold that weight and maintain himself there in the past. It has never happened and it is documented in numerous sources.
Contrary to what Bills fans may think, weighing 220 lbs does not make Maybin a bust. Being cut by the Bills, signed, then cut, then signed again, and STILL getting 6 sacks in 13 games is pretty impressive, especially when one considers that Marcell Dareus led the Bills in sacks last year with 5.5.
1.it must be awesome to have your powers to see into the future.how can you say never.you don't think that its at all possible that a change of workout and diet he can't add more bulk to his frame? 2.judging by your first post in this thread and your avatar i'd say thats exactly what you are trying to be.
I honestly dont care “it is documented in numerous sources” and that bullshit. Once again, Im going to take HIS word on it, not some random “source”. He clearly stated that he was carrying 250... but Im sure you are right!!! Im not sure how you can possibly spin that article into supporting your bs argument, but whatever makes you happy. He is “up to” 245 now, and its taken him 5 months to gain 15 pounds (as he clearly states "I was probably around 229-230 so between then and now, I’m up to 243 now”). Maybe its more “crazy” that the Bills CS didnt let Maybin touch the field at an increased weight? He spent time with the Jets for about 2-3 weeks when we first picked him up and showed flashes right from the start in the preseason, so Im going to go out on a limb and say that he was around the same skill level before he left Buffalo. Why couldnt they get production out of him, despite his weight? Maybin didnt even know the playbook for us and still produced, so that leads me to believe Buffalo didnt put him in the right position to succeed... well, until the released him. I dont think many expect him to be this monster starter, but he IS a bright spot at a huge position of weakness and many are excited to see this guy develop. He is in a great position to succeed and many like his chances to do just that. He may not be a full time starter, I honestly dont expect that just yet, but to say he definitely cant be a 10+ sack guy and provide a passrush on a defense that needs one desperately is pretty ridiculous. Its not like we are here saying Ricky Sapp is going to be a beast this year, get 15 sacks and be our future ROLB... We are talking about a very young, and still raw player who has shown big flashes for us in a limited role.
I guess Buffoonalos just cannot admit that their crappy franchise couldn't coach a player and then gave him away for nothing to a division rival whose coaches turned him into a scary pass edge rushing threat Sent from my SGH-T679 using Tapatalk 2
Where will Maybin line up in our 4-3 scheme? Maybe Olb with the thought of Harris/Scott in the middle and Demario Davis on the other Olb. With Coples and Wilkerson as book ends and devito and pouha as dt's that's a pass rush in itself ... Or Maybin as a speed rush end and Pace takes his place at Olb... I think we have alot of hybrid interchangeable players
I think it will more be like Pace - Wilkerson - Pouha/Ellis - Coples - Maybin and they can rush either one of Maybin and Pace because Coples and Wilkerson can both play end, which is the beauty of the Coples pick- you dont know who is rushing.
The fact that so much time is being spent on here talking up Maybin as the Jets pass rush specialist is good news for all Bills fans. I think it is safe to say that Buffalo is happier with the state of their pass rush now without him. Enjoy...
Well the Bills been to the Superbowl 4 straight years and won nothing that's got to be worst franchise in history nomination... Plus the Jets got production out of someone who they gave up on. We are happy with Maybin Thanks
