You realize that Mario Williams only played one year as an OLB in Houston's new 3-4? He will be moving back to playing DE on the left side in Buffalo's 4-3. Don't worry I am sure the Jets are very aware.
Definitely know what your saying... We just have so much pieces Defensively I think we will go back to Top 5 Defense
My bad, said OLB... was thinking of Maybin’s position... Either way, the Bills gave the biggest defensive player contract in the history of the NFL for someone who isnt elite and who has only had 2 seasons with 10+ sacks... He’s very good, but not even close to being worth the contract that the Bills gave him, and for that I congratulate you and the Bills organization.
mario williams is a good player but the bills are just trash and it is going to be a good example of when having a good pass rusher cant save the rest of your defense like is being argued in some other threads around here.
I just want to make 2 simple points. 1. Guys drafted in the first round often get cut from their teams because they are not the "expectation" the team thought of when they selected them that high. Sometimes these players can actually be somewhat productive, i.e. playing in a situational role for another team, but still not living up to their original expectations. The point I am trying to make is, because of the expectation, failure, salary, and admitting they were wrong, the team that drafted that player would not be able to keep that player and get away with the minimal production. For example: -David Carr has been a good #2 QB option in the league for quite some time. Could the Texans ever get away with keeping him on the roster as a nice backup option? Absolutely not, their fan base would be up in arms. -Jason Babin has bounced around the league and been a decent starter/depth guy for a couple of teams. Could he get away with providing that depth on the Texans? No way. -Amobi Okoye has also been a solid rotational guy for some teams. The Texans could not keep his marginal production. -Same with Adam Carriker. -Same with Reggie Nelson. -Same with Brady Quinn. -Ernie Sims, Matt Leinart, Kamerion Wimbley, Broderick Bunkley, Manny Lawson, Braylon Edwards, Cedric Benson, Jamaal Brown... I could go on forever. What I'm trying to say is that even though these guys offer some production, the original franchise that drafted him just could never allow that lowered production to remain on their team, for a number of reasons. Do you think the Texans care that Babin has been productive, the Jaguars care that Nelson has been pretty solid, Edwards was good, Brown is a decent starter, etc.? No, they dont care. Maybin was not starter material so the Bills cut him. Can he provide some production at a reduced role? Absolutely, but not here. Further, with the Bills roster, he is not good enough right now to even make the Bills. He'd be cut just like some solid d-linemen will be after camp this year because of numbers. 2. Your last paragraph. I agree with all of your optimism. I'd probably be excited too about him if I were you. He's a young guy who is a good situational player. I'm just saying that unless he turns into a full time starter, who can get 10+ sacks a year, I nor the Bills will miss him. Aaron is a great kid and as I've said numerous times, I hope he can stick in this league in some capacity, and it looks like that may happen now.
Just to put things in perspective...the likely third down pass rush specialists for the Bills are Mark Anderson 10 sacks last year or a possibly finally healthy Shawne Merriman. But go ahead and label Mario Williams not "elite" and compare Marcel Dareus's rookie sacks at DT to your pass rush specialist Maybin. You guys are really reaching...
I understand players do not pan out to what the organization pictures them as come draft day, but coming out of college, the Bills knew he was a very raw and talented player... Almost like a project pick. But someone drafted so high shouldnt be considered a project pick because people want production immediately. They shouldve known it would have taken more than a year or two for a one year producer in college to produce in the NFL. From what I know, Maybin wasnt given much of a chance his second year, and when you have a raw prospect you want to slowly work him onto the field. We have a player like that in Ducasse. He could very well be a bust, but he’s only entering his 3rd year and was a very raw yet talented player when drafted. We knew it would take time for him to produce and develop. I for one would be very disappointed in the Jets if the cut him with only 2 years... You can say you Bills fans and the organization have forgotten about him, but I have a strong feeling you havent... otherwise why would Bills fans participate in this discussion endlessly. You have filled his void of his draft position with Williams, but paid 90 million to do so. I dont think theres really any question that he didnt get much of an opportunity/developed the way such a prospect should have been in Buffalo, and now he has a chance to live up to his draft position here in NY. The talent is there, the motivation/love for the game is there and the coaching is... Im excited to see him put it all together.
To put things in perspective... The jets had a top 5 defense last year, and every year, Rex produces top 5 defenses. The Bills? Ha... They may have improved, but they would be extremely lucky to in the top 10, after finishing 26th last season.
Butthurt Bills fans are good entertainment. They will be even more entertaining if maybin outsacks williams this year.
Are you aware of the new defensive coordinator? All the stache does is produce top 10 defenses. Obviously Buffalo has a lot to prove. Fortunately the organization has finally put the right coaches in place to put better players in position to win. Things change quickly in the NFL.
Aaron Maybin was a nice story last season. By all accounts he is a hardworking/humble kid who is also a father. The current Bills regime didn't draft Maybin and let it be known that they didn't want him. I believe Buddy Nix made some comment about how he is too small to be a DL or LB in the NFL when he cut him. He subsequently got cut by the Jets and then re-signed Week 4 for the Ravens game, and had a sack. Overall he led the Jets in sack, and excelled as a 3rd down pass rushing specialist thus proving the Bills wrong.
I wouldn't be so sure of that.Bills match up really well on D w/ high flying teams like New England,San Diego & Denver. They have speed on the back end & are loaded with 1 gappers up front. Where they'll struggle is against physical teams like Baltimore,Pittsburgh & perhaps even our Jets. These teams will punish their front 4 w/ a hard running attack & take advantage of their shaky line backing corps w/ blocks on the 2nd level as well as play action.
Durrrrr, duhhhh, um, er, uh, durrrrrrrrrrrr....... Is that low enough level conversation for you to understand?
I never guaranteed anything. Would be surprised if maybin has more sacks than williams, but not shocked. It would be very entertaining for us if it happened though.
Perhaps we could make a more realistic bet. Maybin vs. our situational pass rushers Mark Anderson, Shawne Merriman, or maybe even the DT's Marcel Dareus, Kyle Williams...
