More like 'I know it's never going to happen, so I'm going to say it's the one thing that will make me stop bashing them.' Troll.
You guys think Chad's bad chunking outside the numbers. Wait until you see sideline outs from Brett "Im-an-INT" Favre go outside. Find out more about the guy's weaknesses before you start to lust after his used-to-be strengths.
Give me a break. Favre is a top 10 QB to this day and Pennington couldn't hold his jock strap. please.
Whitesatinshoeswilliam, I don't recommend a pissing match with either of these guys, unless you are all alone, because your audience might just get in the way.
This post should be moved to a Run-N-Gun10 thread. Seriously. Favre could throw farther and faster with his non-throwing arm than Chad could in 2002.
Abyzmul, I believe we're talking about 2008. Brett Favre would cost somebody $12 million plus whatever compensation Green Bay would dream up. It's also instructive to ask yourself just exactly what would you be getting in 2008? Somebody who wants to (a) play for the Panthers, (b) likes to play long ball with the jennings / driver / moss WRs of the world, and (c) is not often accused of a helluva lot of finesse or play-faking. When you look back at his career it was astounding and perhaps there has been no more entertaining QB to ever play the game, especially so long at such a level. But for his here-and-now price, for his current proclivities he represents more risk than reward for the NYJs in my opinion. Also, according to a number of players (not the least of which the latest comment by Carl Banks) Brett Favre has apparently thrown a lot of interceptions trying to hit his receivers on outs outside the numbers -- his last pass was to Corey Webster by the way, not to Donald Driver who was waiting helplessly out there in the short right flat.
KC&K...are you new to this planet?? You could break both of Favre's arms, and he'd still be an upgrade over Pennington...10-fold. (a) he's got championship experience (b) he's durable (c) can play effectively in cold climates (d) he's made mediochre Wideouts better and (e) he ISN'T Chad Pennington I don't care if he throws interceptions, wants to play for the Panthers, is 205 years old, commands an over-the-top salary....the guy knows how to win...and that's what the Jets need...especially with all the FA they brought in. If he doesn't get traded to us..or stays retired..that's fine too.....but you can't expect us to believe that he's a shittier option that what we have already...that's sheer lunacy.
Great post djak! Which QB on our roster could approach those numbers in 2 seasons? Anyone who wouldn't want this to happen is a delusional homer or related to Chad or Kellen.
Does his wife still have cancer? I know she was being treated at Sloan about two years back here in New York. But anyway, never going to happen.
You're talking about a sure fire first ballot Hall of Famer and a guy who threw for over 4000 yards and almost 30 TD's last year. If that "here and now" production isn't good enough for you than HOW THE FUCK can you come on here and defend chad fucking pennington every day of your life? You're completely nuts dude - completely illogical at best.
I can't wait for training camp to startso we can lose these "speculative" threads. It just ain't gonna happen.
To my critics: You can Kiss My *ss! Dude? Dude.... Dude! I would LOVE for it to happen. In no way am I a Jets hater, or a troll. Losers like you accuse me of stuff like this because you are idiots. In fact, I think it is fans like you who hate the Jets the most. All you Chad fans out there? I think you're satisfied to watch the Jets mired in mediocrity for the rest of my life as long as old Chad tosses the pineapple. (I am an old man, BTW. Me? I wanna win NOW!!!) I do not think that Mangini is a believer in the QB position--he thinks any team can win with a good OL and a decent RB. Otherwise they'd be signing BF ASAP. Another problem (in my mind) is that I think they (the current Jets management) think this current Jets defense is championship calibre, when they are far from it. So they blew their wad on players like Faneca (very good player, but near the end of a long career) and a unch of whatsisnames... Because Woody Johnson is about to fire their butts if the team underperfoms for one more season. Hey, guys like you are all excited that these free agent "whatsisnames" (wo I never heard of before the Jets signed them) are anchoring our offense and defense, and look forward to watching the team struggle to get to 8-8 by the end of the year. Good for you! Enjoy it. So if the Jets suck in 2008, will you take any responsibility for backing a loser? Or will you just blame the coach, as all football losers tend to do. Guys like me are going to be disappointed that the Jets didn't take a crazy, wild chance to sign one of the best QBs who ever played the game... And, incidentally, a player we came close to signing back with the Jets on that dark, draft day so long ago. A guy who could play in the competitive (and media-savvy) AFC East, against great teams like the Patriots and very good teams like the Bills and up and coming teams like the 'Fins. So kill me on the boards. Make fun of me, make me sound like a jerk. But as a long-suffering Jets fan, I am looking for a few good reasons to root for this Jets team in 2008, other than the fact that Eric Mangini is some kind of genius (we now know he isn't), Bill Callahan is our OL coach (if D'Brick is D'Bust it won't matter), and Thomas Jones is our RB (since it seems that we have now learned why Chicago let him get away, as bad as their RB situation is).
No, we accuse you because we know we are correct and your a waste of time. Go make me some chocolate milk.
I'm sorry, but signing Favre would be a horrible move. The Jets are trying to build a team that will contend on a yearly basis. I'm not saying he is an upgrade over what is here, but he would set the franchise back a year or two. There is a reason the Packers want to move on. They need to find out if they have a future QB on the roster. The Jets are in the same positiion. They need to find out if Clemens is the real deal or not. This team is not a SB contender this year. Maybe in a year or two, but not in 2008. So what does signing Favre for one year buy us? A few thrills for one year? Then we and not the Packers are in the retire/not retire thing. And Clemens never sees the field. In 2009 or 2010 when this team is peaking everywhere else, the Jets will have no QB. Favre should go to a win now team with QB issues - not a team that is rebuilding. Pass (no pun intended).
