Beltran and Ibanez have appeared in the exact same number of games, and even have the exact same number of plate appearances.
I'm not suggesting that Ibanez shouldn't be starting, but based on your statement about how much All Star starters should have played, you are. I'm not even saying that Beltran was the only possible choice as third outfielder, but he is very far from having not deserved it.
You're right that the statement applies to both, but going based on numbers, Ibanez does deserve it more.
...which still leaves Beltran as the 3rd most deserving outfielder. What exactly are you trying to argue here?
The fans actually did a good job this year, aside from the Hamilton one. Longoria making it over A-Rod. Mauer getting the AS start. Too bad it took him hitting near .400 to beat out Posada. I would've put Mourneau at first, but Teixeira is having a good season as well. Also would've started McCann at catcher rather than Molina, but the game is in St. Louis. Unfortunate for Russell Branyan, but there are too many AL 1Bs. He should be on the ballot instead of Pena, though. The New York/Boston bias explains all the borderline bad calls. Bay should've been a reserve, not a starter. Pedroia shouldn't have made the team. Teixeira should be on the bench.
Most people will point out that w-l records can be very faulty. RJ used to lose alot of games in Arizona even though he gave up 2 runs.
Inge, Victorino, Werth, and Nelson Cruz all added. The first two were voted as the last spots and the others were injury replacements for Beltran and Toriiiiiiiiii Hunter respectively.
Probably Mauer since he catches RA Dickey. Different style of knuckleball but at least it's SOMETHING.
Carlos Pena will replace Dustin Pedroia in the All Star Game. Good - I didn't think Pedroia deserved the spot anyway.
Which is BS. .230 ba = All Star? Madden picked HIS guy, not the guy most deserving. Kinsler deserved the spot. Now they have 2 2b and 4 1b. GOOD CHOICE.
just read through this thread, and thought I would post this. and i guess it doesn't really matter anymore with Pedroia out, but Pena... really?
Ya, Maddon is a fucking moron. All 4 DEVIL RAY infielders are in the game. But I mean, coincidence, right? 4 fucking first basemen.
With the way these rosters are shaping up, I have a sick feeling that this could end up similar to 2002... These rosters are a clusterfuck. The managers are picking their own guys who have no spot to go over more deserving, correct position, players.
The AL has a weak lineup for the home run derby. Pena, Nelson Cruz, etc. Josh Hamilton, Evan Longoria, and some other guys all said no.
Sucks that Sandoval isn't in there. Versatile and having a great season. Also, I hear Pena got onto the roster by telling Maddon he'd agree to do the derby if he got put on the roster. The AL had no one for the derby because the big sluggers backed out.
