But I am willing to put a paycheck on it that the CS/FO have a lot better clue what we have in Clemens compared to what you and I think about the situation.
Of course. If a QB cant cut it in his 1st 12 starts, then its time to draft a top 10 QB. Even if your picking 28th overall, its time to move up and get a top 10 QB. I understand most of us live in a fast-paced city area, but we need patience.
Precisely. And that's exactly why I think Clemens should at least get the chance to start the first few games unless Chad forces his way into the lineup (unlikely). Chad is basically a known mediocrity and a known below average QB to bad QB at worst to an above average QB at best when healthy. Clemens could be better than that. We spent a pick and saw a kid in college who we thought could be better than that. He wasn't great last year, but it was too small a sample size and too bad a surrounding cast to give a final judgment to. He deserves and needs more time.
Well, if you're right (and of course you certainly could be) and Chad is a re-discovered "known mediocrity", then the CS will notice this right off, probably by the end of OTAs. Then the competition will have been a preamble for Kellen's year. However, I have a feeling that Chad has not been working every day away from his family down in Bradenton, FL because he believes he will show up as a "known mediocrity". In fact, he seriously believes he has a great chance to re-win the starting role on the NYJ as QB. Now, this guy has a lot of guts, in spite of what a lot of the guys on this "message board" think about the quality of his arm or his snail's pace. I don't think he's going down so easily. Should be fun, this competition.
I'm sure Chad will give it his all. I don't know if he's physically capable anymore though. He didn't have any velocity last year, and it was painful to watch. Kellen deserves his shot at proving he's the man, Chad has had many years, and only one has he really been anything better than an average quarterback. And I like Chad. I just can't say I think he's a player I want starting for my team. I bet he could lead a team to the playoffs, but not the Super Bowl. He could prove me wrong, but I doubt it.
So you say Pennington Hater's are extremely bias, so you create an extremely biased thread regarding how Clemens sucks... and I have only said a couple of people who want Pennington competely off the team and not be a quality veteran presence. Your forgetting the bulk of people who want to see Pennington and Clemens compete in training camp, but have Clemens come out on top to give the younger player a chance who could possibly become a quality starting QB. I also think Mangini is going to give Clemens a chance to continue as starter as well.
The main difference I see is that whoever wins this competition should get cheered, but I know that's not going to be the case. If Kellen wins, I'll cheer for him. If Chad wins, I'll cheer for him too. Unfortunately, I know that's not going to be the case for the people calling for Chad's head.
I didn't create this thread and I don't think Clemens sucks. I don't even care who plays, I just want the Jets to win. Personally I think Chad is the better QB, but if Clemens wins the job so be it. That's what professional coaches are for. If we left it up to retards on the Internet, the whole team would be released after the first loss. They want to dump Chad because they're afraid he will win the job, yet they have no solution or alternative that would make the team better. It's just going to be the same crap on here from now until training camp.
I agree with you and that's why they are keeping Chad because he would make a decent backup. If they had no confidence in Clemens, then they would shop for starter.
I disagree with you. I actually believe that the CS and the FO know exactly what they're doing. The real problem with the NYJ is that they have no respect from any NFL team as far as the trenches go. That's where the game is always won or lost first. Without a dominating OL, it doesn't matter who your QB and RBs are. Without a dominating DL and LB group, your DBs will have a helluva time playing catchup. We need to fix what is wrong with this team. What is wrong with this team, and the CS / FO know it, is the Big Uglies are not doing their jobs. Whether it's the right coach (B. Callahan), or the right personnel (Clement, Faneca, Woods, Mangold, etc.), the CS / FO are trying their best to fix it. I would not care a damn if we took no offensive "playmakers" this year -- from free agency or the draft -- just so long as at the end of the day, when the NYJ start playing in anger once again. They regularly are able to enjoy striking fear and loathing into the hearts of their opponents with their smash-'em-in-the-mouth behavior in the trenches. First things first. Dominate in the trenches, and then we'll worry about the ballet slippered folks.
