To answer the original question: NO. Like others have said, the past 2 weeks the JETS will have played vs 2 legit favorites to represent their conferences in the Super Bowl. Sanchez has played like dogshit, no question, but unfortunately Tebow looked just as bad playing 3rd stringers in preseason as Sanchez has vs the leagues top defenses..... if his struggles continue, the change will eventually be made, but no way does it happen before the bye week, for obvious reasons. (offensive overhaul for Timmy)
Yes, everything is lining up against sanchez this week. I am sure if we lose big, every media outlet will be screaming for Sanchez's demotion.
HC's can afford to ignore the media if their record is good enough. But if it gets bad enough, you ignore the media at some risk to your job. Right now the Jets are 2-2 and likely about to go 2-3. But that additional loss will be against one of the top teams in the league. In fact SF and Tex are two of the top five teams in the league, so arguably we should not be surprised they will be 2-3. What really matters as it affects whether they keep Sanchez as the starter is what happens after tonight. Maybe not no matter what happens tonight, but imo pretty much no matter what. At this point even if the O improves I don't see the Jets outscoring NE, so that's likely another loss. Meaning in this second quarter of the season, there are at least two near certain losses. So what about the Indy and second fish games? Imo, if the O improves enough to win those games, Sanchez may end up avoiding a demotion, probably well into the season if not even through the end. But if either is a loss, look out. Inside the organization, either they know that the Jets in fact are lucky to have won the first Miami game, or they are totally clueless. Add that ugly win in to the mix and if the Jets win only one game in the second quarter, MS may well be benched. But I think not until the bye.
hopefully last week was his last starter as a jet. ever. it may take a year or two, but it would be hard not to find a better longterm solution in the draft/FA. just look at how many good young qbs there are these days
If they want to make a change at QB, I think they would prefer to do it over the bye. But I really think this 4 game stretch is going to determine his future here. If we go 3-1 or better over the next for games and he plays well, then I say he remains starter, but if we go 1-3 or 0-4 losing to Indy or Miami at home as a result of a poor offensive performance with his poor play, I say Tebow gets the reins. The wildcard here is if we go 2-2 lose the games we should Hou and New, and win the ones we should Indy and Miami. If it plays out this way, whether he remains starter or not depends on how he personally plays, and I don't see him playing well against the texans, patriots, or dolphins. Tebow by the bye.
If we lose badly, sadly YES. He might even get pulled into tonights game seeing that its MNF and would be a good stunt to start the very short Tebow era. It really is sad to see how Mark "has" ended up.
You must be reading too much NFL.com. They've been pushing hard for Tebow ever since we got him, even going as far as calling it a "QB competition" in the offseason/preseason. There has been nothing from the Jets organization that would lead one to believe that Mark will be benched. This is the media creating the news instead of reporting it. The coaches see these guys in practice, they know Mark is their best chance to win, and they knew Tebow can't throw worth a damn. It's just not going to happen.
I don't think they want to make a mid-season replacement. It's very difficult to do. And plus it seems only fair and wise to let Mark play some of the easier opponents coming up. This has been a brutal run through the schedule, and he showed against the Bills he can still execute against a lousy defense.
