I thought he did sign a deal but no one brought it up until u did. To hell with him man. This is absolutely sick. He just wants a raise cuz of our FA moves. I wouldnt want someone one the team whose priority is $ and does'nt care about his own words and contract. This is ridiculous....

You missed one. News is, Chatman is seeking permission for a trade. He is unhappy about his playing in NY lately along with his contract figures. He is now threatening the FO that he will walk away from the draft on Saturday.

Jets are shopping him for a first round pick along with a good CB. News is, the Raiders have shown alot of interest and are willing to pay him more money than Walker along with trading away Asumogha and their fourth overall. Jets apparently are asking for JeMarcus instead of Asumogha. We expect to see the trade to be done by Friday.

Ugh, terrible trade. If they threw in Huff, we might be obliged to bite.

We should have just traded Chatman straight up for Peyton Manning while the offer was on the table. Oh well, you live, you learn.

I think you can draw the line between certain types of players. To guys like Bryan Thomas and Coles, it makes sense to see the talent and potential there and pony up more money. For guys like Pete Kendall and Baker it makes sense to say you aren't worth it. It's not about setting an example - it's just about believing a player is worth what they are asking.

He signed it for the sake of the team, because at that time they were in cap trouble. Thats loyalty and he has a right gripe to ask for a minor raise for helping the team out.

thats BS... for the sake of the team my left nut... he got more money, so how is it for the sake of the team... when was the cap trouble you speak of since he only just re-did the deal inside the last 8 months. There was no trouble anyone here is aware of... minor raise... usually people earn raises...

I am talking about the previous years but ok. Baker has been one of the longest lasting Jets on the team right now and has done what was asked of him always.
As I said before in the thread, if he wants a mega deal forget him but if its a small thing like what Kendall had asked last year, what is the problem? He signed for less money because we were the team that drafted him and because of the loyalty factor. I mean if he's asking for a little raise, what is the problem? Hes a starter on the team after all.

According to Rotoworld, Baker received a 3-year 5.4 million contract in November of 2007. Regardless of how it was broken up, that equates to an average of 1.8 million per year.

The average NFL salary for a tight end in 2007 was 2 million dollars, which means he is getting paid about the league average at his position.

He is a solid NFL tight end. He isn't great, and he doesn't suck. There is also no reason to believe that he won't be picked up for a decent amount of change ala Ben Utect when his contract expires. Did I also mention that Bubba Franks is only getting 1.65 million this year, which clearly makes him the 2nd highest paid TE on the team.

I can see where he might want some security considering that he is underutilized in the passing game, which is where the $tat$ come from. But considering our run game with him blocking wasn't that great either, he can't be that great of a blocker. So it stands to reason that he is an all-around average player. He is an average blocker, with great hands, that has trouble getting open.

He really needs to just STFU and play out the contract he just signed. He will be eligible for a raise in a year or two, in which he has plenty of time to prove he is worth more than his current salary, which is about exactly what he's worth right now.

Thing is, he signed a 3 yr deal in late November 2007. He played probably 5 games after that. Does it even make sense that he wants a new contract after 5 games? Did he break out in those last 5 games and now thinks he is a superstar? It is unbelievable how quickly he is walking away from his own words and you talk about loyalty. If he's loyal, then he must complete his contract. Look at Kerry Rhodes. Much much better player than him and he played a few seasons before the FO gave him a raise. He did'nt bitch about it.

If he is not happy with the money he is getting, then why the heck did he sign the deal in November anyways? He signed it and knew what he was getting.

This stinks. IMO Baker has been a great asset for us. Not the best TE but for the Jets lousy TE play calling , he fit in rather well. Bubba is old and over and Baker will be missed on GL situations.

I wish this had not happened.

If Bubba Franks were making more money than me and I could do a better job, I'd be upset as well.

I think this will iron itself out once Dewayne is off the roster. I don't think Tannenbaum believes Franks will be an adequate tight end to start the season with.

His base pay is less than that of Bubba's but his cap numbers are higher than Bubba's. That means, he got plenty of signing bonus to cover the 3 yrs of low base pay. He avgs. $1.8M a yr for the 3 yr contract.
