As petty and vindictive as this CS seems to be, there's no reason why NOT to think of this as a smokescreen for Baker's statement to the press..
Coles has never criticized a teammate or the coaches directly. He has complained about camps and occasionally about the hard knocks he takes in the Jets offense but he has never taken a potshot at somebody. Rightly or wrongly Baker took a potshot at the coaching after last week's game. I think this move is an attempt by Mangini to hold things together if the game goes poorly this week. It might work. Of course not starting Baker makes it more likely that things will go poorly...
