    This isn't necessarilly true.....

. Teams will be given an entire offseason to sign a franchise or transition player without losing the ability to tag future players. The current rules give a team that tags a player until March 17 to reach a long-term deal without losing the ability to give a franchise or transition designation for the length of that long-term deal. Under the new rules, the Seahawks, for example, have the ability to negotiate a long-term deal with transition guard Steve Hutchinson until July 15. If he signs a long-term deal before then, the Seahawks can get the tag for the next year. After July 15, the team can keep the franchise or transition tag only if the player signs a one-year deal.

There are conflicting reports on this.... 2004, under the old CBA what you said was right, but now there is some question about how the new CBA could affect JA's situation. If the above excerpt from ESPN is indeed correct, we can still sign and trade JA without the previous tag and cap penalties that were included in the old CBA.

I emailed PFT about this yesterday, and included the ESPN link, but nothing new from them on this as of yet.

I just realised that this ESPN link is not good.... they moved the article and I can't find it.... but I did cut that one paragraph out. There isn't a single place on the net that I can find that details the new CBA... very frustrating.

Not sure if this is what you are looking for but...

Under the old CBA, a team had until March 17 to work out a long term deal with its Franchise Player. If the team signed the Franchise Player between March 18 and July 15, the tag would have stayed with that player for the length of his contract, which meant that the team could not name another Franchise Payer until that player's contract was terminated. The updated CBA pushed that date back until July 22, the same as the free agency deadline.

He could possibly be like Robert Mathis on 3rd downs and play DE...Unlikely but he could play DE, but not all game obviously...

Grant Wistrom and Bryce Fisher are pretty formidable, Wistrom has been average at best since getting his big contract 2 years ago...

Anyway, if they can somehow aquire Abraham, you can book them a ticket to Miami.

Don't know if that's for certain, Johnnyd.

I read that the Seahawks had put aside $ for Hutch that they now are not using, so, if they wish, they still have room for Abraham. This is AFTER signing Peterson.

But I still think he will wind up in Atlanta. They will work something out.

O please . Why cant he just be a Jets fan whos excited to see Abe go, or a person that likes all the moving around. And there are quite a few pessimistic Jet fans on this board ( see champ)

Have a nice day, and relax what do you expect to gain from "exposing" him.

perhaps were just going to have to bite the bullet and take the second. What use is he on our team doing nothing ???? NONE ! Screw abe, once he gets his big contract hell probably go down with a sprained ankle.
I also had a revelation im sure somewhere down the line last season abraham got hurt , but im sure he chose to play through it. Several times limped off the field. But he chose to play through it. Whoever gets abe now is getting the abe of old, gets nicked up and he done for the day.

I hope marcus steps on his leg

They do not lose bargainning power cause they always have in their back pocket that they can just keep him.
