Its the "New England Patriot" persona that lures these guys. Everyone including the JETS think because they hire a guy off BBs staff it equals instant success. We all know how that goes. Im glad anytime New England loses a player or a coach to another team.

This is a win-win for us.

It strips NE of a guy they've had in their organization for 8 years and eliminates one of the HC openings, giving us more choices and making our opening more desirable.

So what openings are out there still?

    Jets
    Lions
    Rams
Colts (apparently, supposedly going to be filled by coach in waiting)

    Is that everybody?

plenty of candidates still around. he is my thought on how it goes down

Jets - Rex Ryan (reports are we loved him yesterday, will likely wait for at least a 2nd interview if not give it to him.)

Rams - Mike Shannahan (I think he needs a year off. He won't take it. His time frame before talking to teams is winding down. If it is Shannahan or Spags, I think they go with the experience. However, the thought that Spags deserves a job this year seems to make him a must put in for the last job. But I think Mike does the Rams better, he will have Stephen Jackson back and running better than ever with his zone blocking scheme.

Lions - Jim Schwartz (They seem infatuated with this guy brought him in less than 10 hours after Tennesee lost for a second interview, they flew him out on top of it.)

    Colts- Stay in house

Just my take on the situation. I think Spags is going to be stuck without a HC job for one more year, just as Ryan was last year. Of course that could change if we hire him, but after the reports of us loving Rex yesterday, I truly believe he is the guy.

It's odd that working for Bill Belicheck still carries so much weight considering how the rest of his disciples (Saban, Weis, Mangini, Crennel) have fared once getting their own head coaching gigs.

If anything, their failures suggest to me that Belicheck really is that much of a genious. He certainly seems to make his coordinators appear better than they are.

Totally agree. This is going to be another Belicheck disciple who's record will only achieve mediocrity. IMO Belicheck is such a control freak as a coach, he limits the growth of his coordinators developing into quality coaches.
