I think Cavanaugh and Sanchez shared a mutual dislike of Schotty that will work to their benefit as they work together in 2012
I would prefer a full housecleaning of our offensive coaching staff since we were so pitiful last year. QB was certainly a major issue in that suckitude, so it would make sense to get rid of the QB coach. Like everyone else posting here, I am coming from a position of ignorance as I don't know what goes on in practice, meetings, and in the locker room. That is for Rex to decide and I trust that he will make the right judgments about his staff because ultimately, it's his fat ass on the line.
This is a load of crap. People turn down interviews in the NFL, it happens fairly regularly. You think these guys didn't know what they were interviewing for but all of us and the media knew? Give me a break. I don't expect you to be a big boy and admit you're wrong though.
You have no way of knowing what the candidates knew in advance. I never said people don't turn down interviews. I said that they do not do so "out of hand". Perhaps you are not that familiar with that term, but it means more or less if you have a good reason not to, such as you are under contract or otherwise committed to the team you are already with, that would not be turning it down "out of hand". I would prefer to see posters be more respectful of other opinions here than your post indicated you were, particularly if they clearly did not understand the post they were attacking. Just commenting. And of course anyone who is claiming they knew what the candidates knew they were being asked to interview for, how much they would be paid, how definite it was that the Jets' Qb situation is set in stone (despite speculation to the contrary) is, well, I won't use the word crap, but let's just say asserting a pile of solid to semi-solid waste byproducts. With all due respect. PS For the record I have admitted mistakes in the past here on a number of occasions.
Oh, come on now. You can't be serious. Sanchez regressed with the rest of his offense. None of us can be sure of the cause and effect.
I think regardless of who the QB coach is, we'll see a drastic change in this offense; If nothing else due to dramatic change in philosophy. Whether it's for better or worse remains to be seen. All I know is, I still can't over Schottenheimer completely shunning Sanchez's exceptional ability to throw on the run, and him literally trying to recreate the Air coryell with a team, city & division built on a physical running game.
Huey, Dewey, Louie, Mo and Schemp. At least that is what it amounts to without names, same as anonymous sources.
Your first two posts clearly insinuate that the reason none of the people they talked to wanted the job was because they would have to coach Mark Sanchez. Then you say "What Schein said makes sense to me, but people can delude themselves, especially with some encouragement." Delude themselves about what? All he says is that he thinks it's a shocking and counterproductive move for the Jets to stay with Cavanaugh - nothing about the reason for the move and nothing about why the other possible guys weren't hired. You're the one attaching your own meaning to it without any reason behind it. He didn't even say that these guys were officially interviewed, just that the Jets "talked" to 5 guys that he knew of. Then you want to tell me that I don't know how the NFL works as if you have some professional insight into how coaching interviews are carried out? Take a look at your own posts. You assumed a whole lot based on a one sentence tweet and then you want to criticize other people for pointing out that you actually don't have any idea what went down and what the reasons behind the decisions were. Ridiculous.
The Jets interviewed five people who they thought based on their prior experience would be potential upgrades over Cavanaugh, and none of them took the job. I concede I have deduced it is because there was something they did not like about the job which led them not to take it. Lack of money? Probably not. The JEts know the market. Why interview people if you are not prepared to pay them? So why do YOU think they did not get any of those people instead of Cavanaugh? This should be fun.
First of all nobody even knows who these 5 people were. Second of all the tweet that started this whole conversation was Schein saying the Jets ''talked'' to five guys that he knew of. That doesn't even mean that they necessarily had actual interviews with these guys. For all we know they could have inquired with guys who already had higher positions than QB coach and didn't want to take a lower position or they could have talked to guys who are at the college level and didn't want to make the move to the NFL. Hell, they could have talked to guys who are retired and weren't interested in coming back to coaching. Nobody knows if they even offered the job to anyone or were just putting feelers out. There is also of course the possibility that they talked to some guys who weren't interested because they don't think Sanchez is worth coaching. The point is, nobody outside of the Jets FO has the first clue about what went on so it makes no sense to start assuming that you do. It seems that ''deducing'' for you means figuring out some way to blame everything on the fact that Sanchez sucks - FAs won't want to come here because Sanchez sucks, Santonio was disgruntled because Sanchez sucks, Schotty wanted out because Sanchez sucks, etc. Then when you get called out for making assumptions without any proof it's because the person calling you out is a ''Sanchez Homer''. It gets tiring. Edit: And on top of all that you're still assuming that they offered all of these guys the job. You have no idea whether they offered anybody the job.
I wonder if at this point he will have some sort of "passing coordinator" responsabilities... like they wanted to do with Haley & Daboll.
Funny how another comment on this page that is PURE speculation, that being that Cavanaugh and Sanchez did not like working with Schotty, goes without comment. See 42 and Counting's post above. Yet my view that the Jets TALKED to five people means that they weren't talking for the sake of talking, that they were talking about replacing Cavanaugh, not the weather, and that they were talking to people they thought would be better than Cavanaugh, otherwise why would they talk to them?, and FINALLY that as Schein reported none of them came to the Jets. So you didn't answer the question - why do you think none of them came to the Jets? Your ridiculous notion that the Jets sought out people who on the face of it would be bad candidates is a dodge. Again, the FO would have to be incompetent to have sought out such people. Similarly why would they talk to anyone if they were happy with Cavanaugh? Oh yeah, that weather sure is something. An endlessly fascinating subject for conversation. Among other things you would think if the coaching community was so averse to Schotty, they would have been calling the Jets themselves to offer to work here for minimal compensation now that Schotty is gone, but that hasn't seemed to happen either. But go ahead and get agitated by the notion that the common thread here is a perception both inside and outside the organization that Sanchez is not very good. Frankly, I fail to see what is so off putting about such a position, other than of course if you want to be self deluded about Sanchez being better than he really is, of course. Finally, regarding the assertion that I don't have personal knowledge of what in fact was going on in those conversations and in the thinking in the Jet FO is a complaint true about ninety nine percent of the posts on these boards. I never said I had personal knowledge. I have said what the reasons are for why I think my perception is warranted. If you think a better explanation exists, feel free to put it out there. Maybe you might be persuasive, and I would genuinely appreciate that. Otherwise you are just complaining that I am not as supportive of Mark Sanchez as you would like.
If the jets really did 'interview' 5 ppl my thought is it wasn't the jets at all, rather it was sparano making a few calls in hopes of giving tanny a few names of 'his guys' to replace cav, but parcelles was at the track and didn't pick up. I'm pretty sure this is it. on a serious note, jaws just got fired from the booth. jaws anyone? don't make me start a new thread dammit!!!
Jaws didn't get fired. He got re-assigned. ESPN loves Jaws and they will have him do more Playbook stuff in their other shows.
The reason many people are citing for Jaws being taken out of the MNF booth is that he and Gruden sound so similar and make very similar contributions to the telecast. Jaws apparently is seen as redundant in the overall presentation and they wanted to focus the show a bit more tightly by just having Gruden in that role. This also puts to rest the speculation about Gruden going back to coaching any time soon. He would likely have given ESPN assurances about his intentions before they made this move. Jaws is a wonderful asset for ESPN, he just didn't fit in that booth. If they had a third now he'd likely be a funny guy and while Jaws can do that it's not his strength. Same for Gruden. BTW, with the TV money going where it is I wouldn't be surprised to see a mega-star land in a booth soon for a temporary gig that might go longer than that. A Bruce Willis or Will Smith as an example. The money is there to do that now and the ratings improvement would probably be worth the investment. If you're paying 2.5 times what you did before for rights you need to really capitalize on that investment.
