The likelihood of a late round receiver coming in and giving us the type of production we could get from Coles is pretty low.

Why is he a head case? Because of all the anonymous Cimini quotes? I see those have abruptly stopped since Coles left town. And why would you care if he was? It's about what he can bring to the table on the field, I'm sure he's not going to tear apart the locker room chemistry.

Coles is nothing more than a "me-first" player. He's been that way throughout his career. Such an attitude goes contrary to what Rex is trying to instill in his players.

We had another "me-first" player up until a day ago- how did that work out for him?

Yes, we can...but if Coles is on the roster, the rookie receiver could develop slowly behind three veterans.

Well...i do care what he'll bring to the field....which i believe won't be much of anything substantial. My reasons:

    1) This isn't 2002

    2) Chad Pennington is not the QB here anymore....he'd have to build a rapport with a new QB...which didn't work out so well for him in Cincy.

    3) I don't care that he survived last season....his head is still an egg waiting to be cracked. Too many concussions...that shit doesn't just disappear over time.

Coles would need to accept the fact that he'd be a 3rd WR here if he signed. He always produced on the field, and that's all I care about. I highly doubt a 3rd WR would cause major distraction for the team. If he did, we could just as easily cut him.

And why do you say he's a "me first" player? Because he wanted more money? Because of Cimini's anonymous locker room quotes that everyone applied to Coles?

43 catches for 514 yards and 5 TDs isn't bad at all for a WR that was the team's fourth option for most of the season.

I'd be really happy if Coles could come back to New York and put up similar numbers as our slot receiver.

His 2009 production with a new QB in a different system is exactly the type of production we'd be happy with from our slot guy.

Coles was a douche bag a lot of time when he was here. It has nothing to do with anonymous quotes. The guy's a whiny bitch that always wants his way.

I hope that he's reached a point in his career where he can realize that he's simply a role player now.

This is getting really ridiculous. Coles is done. His career is over.

He is one good hit from being paralyzed.

I can easily see him getting knocked out in the first week or two of the season and costing us a different option.

You didn't need anonymous reports from anyone- Coles had enough soundbites on his own which pointed to his being a malcontent.

Every player in the NFL is one good hit away from being paralyzed.

Yes he has concussion history, but he did not have one last year which is a good sign.

To say his career is over seems silly to me. Look at the production we got from our slot receivers and look at what Coles did last season. Tell me he isn't an upgrade at WR #3.

I think a lot of people played into the media's bullshit with Coles. His quotes never seemed too bad to me, but people went nuts and also applied "anonymous" quotes from Cimini to him. But really, I don't give a shit if he's a douche. He'd be an improvement at WR #3.

    Feel free to post them.

Coles gave 110% of himself on the field no question! As for Coles being a douche bag this was only tward media types.. Not team mates, coaches or front office.

some of you need to understand the concept of low risk - high reward ... if he acts up, he gets cut. if he doesnt, we can get 400-500 yds out of our slot guy for something close to the veterans min

    ill take it

Ocho, Cladwell, and Coles were the only guys over 400 yards for the Bengals last season, Coles second at 514. Yet the team think so little of him they let him go.

Why do we want him back? He's often not healthy. He's a grumpy, pouty, SOB on the sidelines when things do not go his way. This is not the type of person I want Edwards or Sanchez around often. Its a "decent" depth move at best.

I'd rather get a young slot receiver in the draft in one form or another. Someone who will be around for a few years to develop some chemisty with Mark, not a one and done vet looking for a last payday.

if Coles were to come back...i'd still support him, because he'd obviously be a part of the team.

I just think he's "done".....the Jets are heading in a different direction now.

Coles coming back immediately upgrades the offense. Think about this: Coles would be the #3 WR in this offense. He would most likely play the slot position. However, in rotation, he could slide out and fill both Edwards' and Cotchery's positions. Can Brad Smith (our current #3) do that?

Coles is an instant upgrade to our offense and gives a very nice fourth option to Sanchez after Edwards, Cotchery, and Keller.

Anyone who thinks that's a bad thing is crazy.

i'm not crazy, Alio.....I just include other factors into my opinions.

Like Coles' age, injury history, his personality affecting the lockeroom, the fact that the Bengals gave him that huge contract and now they're dumping him after one season.

He may turn out to be a good pickup....but it's not that cut & dried, IMO.

^ The Bengals gave him a retarded contract and he didn't produce to that level. That doesn't mean he can't still produce at a level that would be an upgrade for us at WR #3. For the right salary it can make sense.
