yeah but had Rex had Good clock management, the Jets would've had more time instead of 7 seconds to get another play off(or two) to get closer to FG range.
I've been meaning to post in here for awhile, and read the opinions as well. I'm surprised people are getting into such detail about it. It's quite cut and dry. We would have done an obvious slant route to attempt getting closer. What are the chances we gain those 5-20 yards in 6 seconds? I'll give it a 30-40% chance. So no we probably wouldn't have won, but it was definitely still possible. On that note, I read today that Nick Folk said..actually I'll just post it... http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york/jets/post/_/id/26735/folk-justifies-spot PS. Folk has a powerful leg for those who don't know. I know it's not probable, but he very well could have gotten it that far...now in-between the posts? Well...we'll never need to know.
This is the interesting question to me. Would the Jets have tried a 63 yard FG at the end after Geno went out of bounds if that was where things stood? No idea what the call would have been but Folk has a very strong leg and it would have made Geno's contributions on that drive all positive instead of setting him up for a Hail Mary interception at the end.
On ESPN radio yesterday, I remember Rex saying that they felt they needed to get to the 40 yard line at least before they'd take a shot on a field goal (57-58 yarder). Who knows what he does in that actual situation though.
That's what bothered me the most. In my mind, I half-assed calculated approximately 10-12 additional seconds that we should have had, because there was not one, but two such instances of a delayed TO called.... approximately 5 seconds each. Meantime, I'm screaming at the top of my lungs. So, if you take the 7 seconds and add, say 10, now you would have had 17 seconds and no need for a Hail Mary. You had one or possbily even two more shots at sideline catches to get you to decent FG range. Rex has to know he did that and I certainly hope he gets that fixed. Christ, bring in Mike Westhoff again if you have to, just to watch the freaking clock, for God's sake.
An extra 10 seconds would have opened up the ability to throw a pass down the middle of the field or run a draw play and spike it again to setup an easier kick. An extra 7-10 yards would have been easily obtainable at that point. Luckily TB made up for Rex's mistake.
Yeah, the 15 yds was probably more than we would have gotten by doing the other. Things were getting pretty tight at that point and Smith being a rookie and all... But hey, I'll take it. Schiano has to be beside himself this week.
They did, of course, but you don't go into a game expecting to start a drive on the OPP 5. Is it an exact comparison to the OOB hit? No, it's admittedly flawed, but my point is that you need to take advantage of breaks whenever they come in the game. A win is not a good hard fought win if your break comes in the first half, but a cheap win if it comes on the second to last play. The Jets could have still not taken advantage of the break by missing the 48 yarder, which is a play that gets missed just about every week in the NFL.
Well, there is a time limit on the game. There simply was no time for Tampa to recover from that penalty with 7 seconds remaining. It cost them the game, why? Because it was the last defensive play of the game, and without it the Jets lose. Just sheer stupidity or lack of awareness. Yeah, they still could have missed the fieldgoal, but they wouldn't have had the chance to kick it from there without the boneheaded Tampa penalty. It was a gift from the football Gods...and from David. I wouldn't call it a cheap win, though. I'd call it damn lucky. The penalty was legit.
Probably not. But they would not have won without the dumb blitz call on D. One dumb D cancels out another dumb D.
Trips right, one receiver left - the hail mary formation. Two receivers on the right go long and last one down & out 4-5 yards downfield on the sideline. Play takes 5 seconds. Try a 58-59 yarder. If incomplete, still a hail mary chance.
