The problem is he doesn't. His knee is gone. If its as bad as they say, He'll have enough trouble/pain walking, letting alone trying to make cuts and break tackles.

He's had a great career. A definate HOF.

Maybe the Jets will do like the Steelers did with Bettis. Play the young players and put Curtis in for the extra few yards needed. Still going to be depressing when he does retire.
    I love ya Curtis! :)

Damn, I didn't know it was that serious.

Curtis is a class act and a player that young and old alike can look up to and realize how amazing of a player and human being he is. I think it's a shame he has to go out like this (if he does indeed retire) but it was coming eventually. I loved Curtis, he's my all time favorite Jet, but I would've liked to see him go out on a highnote.

We love ya Curt. Keep Running 28.

So if he does indeed retire, I think there's a game inorder where at halftime they honor Curtis and Wayne at the same game.

    That would be absolutley incredible.

If he retires this month, he would be eligible for the class of 2011.

And anybody who thinks Bettis was the better RB is either a Steelers homer or a Jets hater.

What? I didn't say Bettis was the better player! I used him as an example on how the Steelers played him so he could retire with dignity and class.

To be fair, Bettis has way more 100 yard games, and who would you rather give the ball to on third and one?

I'm not sure anybody here said Bettis was better. I wasn't alluding to anything in your post at the top of the page.

Short yardage situations is the only area Bettis trumps Martin.

I agree that Curtis won't do anything to hurt the team. That's a different issue. But if it's just a question of pain, he won't go down this way. Nothing in his past suggests he will.

One thing I found interesting is that he was participating in June minicamps, according to one report today. What happened between now and then? Did he have another surgery? We'll see, I guess.

i am so freaking tired of hearing this crap about martin. notice how every single source is "a person close to martin" "someone speaking under the condition of animity" im not believing any of this shit until the jets or martin himself releases a statement.

He can talk shop with Namath. Run, Joe, run! Er, kinda sorta.

That is an actual photo of Namath's brace from the early '70's. Looks like something that idiot girl in 'Heidi' wore before she ditched the wheelchair. Anyway, let's hope for the best in the meanwhile - whatever is best for Curtis.

He can thank Herman Edwards for this as well. If Edwards wasn't hell bent on getting Martin that record, perhaps they could have sat Martin for his own good and he might be available to help out this year but nooooo, Not Hermie the playas coach.

This is what happens when a player's coach becomes too close to the guys on his roster. Herman Edwards is to blame for the end of Martin's career basically by running Martin into the friggin ground season after season and not taking into account the wear and tear on Martin's knees.

Hopefully, Martin won't wind up like Earl Campbell down the road...

Does bone on bone in the knee gravitate to bone on bone in the fingers?

I completely agree. I'm no doctor, but constantly trotting him out after his injury in week two for ten games probably didn't help at all.
