jets cut 8, including tim dwight....Cimini http://www.nydailynews.com/blogs/jets/ The Jets Stream The Jets Stream August 27, 2007 Jets release eight, including Tim Dwight The Jets released eight players today, including WR/PR Tim Dwight, which isn't going to help my chances of winning the annual beat writers' roster pool. I thought Dwight, an Eric Mangini favorite, would make it back from last season's foot injury and land on the 53-man roster. Boy, was I wrong. Because he was cut from the physically-unable-to-perform list, Dwight presumably received an injury settlement from the team. I wouldn't be surprised if he decides to pack it in. In the offseason, Dwight, 32, hinted this might be his final season. In his only season with the Jets, 2006, Dwight caught 16 passes for 112 yards. He arrived as a free agent (four year, $4.2 million, including a $750,000 signing bonus), with the idea that he'd be a dependable slot receiver and punt returner. He didn't do a great job as a returner, averaging 10.4 yards on 14 chances. Late in the season, he suffered a serious foot injury in practice, tearing a tendon and requiring surgery. It's weird that Dwight got his walking papers on the same day that Michael Vick pleaded guilty to federal charges of dogfighting. Without Dwight, Vick wouldn't have been an Atlanta Falcon. Seriouly. On April 20, 2001, Dwight went from the Falcons to the Chargers in a package that sent the No. 1 overall pick (Vick) to the Falcons. The Chargers are on record as saying they wouldn't have made the trade if it didn't include Dwight. Interesting, huh? Anyway, seven other players were cut: DE Darrell Adams NT Zarnell Fitch RB Tony Hollings CB Rayshaun Kizer WR Dante Ridgeway RG Nick Smith WR Juan Wong I knew Wong was in trouble, but it always hurts when it finally happens. The roster now stands at 75. Other nuggets: ? Good news on the injury front: CB Justin Miller (hamstring), S Eric Smith (leg) and CB Andre Dyson (leg) returned to practice. All three should be available for the pre-season finale Thursday night in Philly. ? RB Thomas Jones (calf) is moving around much better and, although he won't play this week, he should be a go for the season opener. ? Mangini on impressive rookie LB David Harris: "He does a nice job of going up and taking on the guards. He's got a good physical presence against those guys, but yet he's fluid in space, which I like. You look for that with the inside linebacker's spot, to have the ability to go hit the guy with some pop and some power. But you don't want that to be the only strength, and now when you've got to cover a guy man-to-man or drop to a deep part of the field, you can't get it done." ? Mangini's beloved "Jets Core Values" are plastered all over the practice field. The words "Focus," "Finish," "Communication" and "Trust" are written in white paint in various places on the field. You know, just in case they forget. ? Shocker of the day: Leberfeld from Jets Confidential asked his first question to Mangini in about a year. Afterward, in a private moment, Mangini admitted he was a little stunned by Leberfeld's sudden participation. But at the podium, the coach maintained his poise. He focused on the question, communicated his answer well and made sure to finish strongly. Obviously, he trusted his instincts.
You saw the stray cat on the field last week. What if that were a stray boar? Well we'd be in luck. Any other team would be screwed.
we wasted a 3rd round pick on this guy. the coaching staff wants to make sure he REALLY is a bust before getting rid of him. i mean he was pretty good in college
definitely. granted, the guy hasn't looked good at all, but it's only his second year, and there isn't much to base his performance on. i guess it's hard to gauge his OSU play because that Defense was so stacked. i don't have a link or anything, but from what i understand, when they were watching film of Hawk, they kept noticing Schlegel was always around the ball. again, probably a byproduct of that D. the only way we'll know is if he gets some actual reps in meaningful action.
