I think it's more of a put your money where your mouth is situation for me. He ignored the defense and it was historically bad, it was unbelievable how stand offish he was about it. I just want him to do something besides cheerleader so I can see what tf he actually does for the team.
so the suggestion is to pass on hiring accomplished defensive coordinators because you don’t like Aaron Glenn and you want him to prove something to a football fan on the Internet?
You are relentless lol, over 70% of the fan base and most pundits and analysts I've listened to thinks Glenn is awful and should be one and done but none of the players and coaches do, sure. I'm sure accomplished DCs are crawling all over themselves when they would have a very good chance of being one and done next year with this coach. Defend him all you want if he is successful he would be an unbelievable outlier based on his performance and past history of coaches with his level of ineptitude. I don't hate Glenn, he was a great player and seems like a nice guy but he's a terrible coach, you need to learn to separate the two.
I don't think we will pass on "accomplished defensive coordinators", I think they will pass on us, is that better? Come to the dark side my friend, you are in a tiny sub set of fans right now that share your optimism and opinion.
I think the suggestion is it’s highly unlikely any accomplished DC’s are going to be willing to come here. There’s a very good chance Glenn doesn’t even make it through the next season. You’re not going to convince guys to sign here only to be looking for a new job in a year, and there’s currently 7 openings for DC. We are by far the least desirable. Ironically if we were hiring a HC we’d be one of the most desirable positions available given our draft picks in line for the future, which would in turn make our DC position much more desirable for established candidates. Glenn clearly doesn’t have many connections, nor does he inspire much confidence. He had the scrape the bottom of the barrel for Wilks, and Engstrand had zero interest from any other teams including his former OC. It’s a real possibility he’s going to be removing the interim tag from Harris and call plays himself.
I understand that this is what you think but we have multiple reports of an established DC being interested. That’s why I’m confused as to why we’re saying it’s an impossibility.
If they’re that accomplished, they’d be head coaches. DC’s change jobs all the time. Sometime lame duck situations are appealing to them because they have a shot to get an interim tag. Wink isn’t Bill Parcells. And some of the teams hiring defensive coordinators as head coaches (like Jesse Minter, Jeff Hafley, and Brian Flores) likely aren’t hiring a guy like him. So the pool of jobs available is small for someone like him who wants to get back into the league.
Raheem Morris? He's one of those good coordinator types that just couldn't find success in the big seat. lots of experience. played at Hofstra, from New Jersey...
Him and Glenn have history too. Not sure if their philosophies mesh though. One guy is a zone guy, the other a press guy. We really don't have the horses yet to play either style.
I’d love Morris as an option but yea unfortunately it feels like the styles won’t match. I really think there’s something to Martindale. Hughes clearly had an in with him when he was the Giants DC and Hughes was the first one to mention it a few weeks ago. Then someone else brought it up. Then Glenn basically described Wink’s scheme at the presser yesterday. Then Rosenblatt says there’s mutual interest. That’s a whole lot of smoke.
Not sure how that changes things. He did let Wink go years ago so maybe their relationship isn’t as strong as we’d think?
https://www.sportingnews.com/us/nfl...-aaron-glenns-dc-job/8fa04856e1f8b54967a4ee67 " He was a solid coordinator for the Ravens, but after a down 2021 season, he left to join the New York Giants as their defensive coordinator. His defenses in New York were ranked 25th and 27th in yards allowed in 2022 and 2023, and 17th and 26th in points allowed. While he hasn't been the best coordinator in the NFL when he's had a job, the ceiling of his defenses can be one of the best units in the NFL. After how poorly 2025 went with Wilks in the coordinator role, Martindale might not be a terrible option. Hughes links the Jets to Martindale as a potential defensive coordinator option this offseason, and Jets fans should keep him in mind as a potential option for Glenn and the Jets defense in 2026." 62 years old, high ceiling low floor guy, sounds about right. If Glenn can't get him in here I'm not sure who he can.
I posted in a different thread a day or two ago -- Jonathan Gannon would make sense because the bar is low and he probably isn't looking for a long-term job.
