Gentlemen, if we do get rid of him, who do we replace him with? To be honest, I don't see anybody available who, right now, is better (remember, all the guys available got cut by somebody else) but, if he has a repeat performance against N.E... Then we have no choice but to get rid of him.
He didn't cost us the game. What is to say you sign another guy and he is worse? Kickers are a weird breed. Today was just a bad day. There aren't three or four Adam Vinatieri's just waiting around at home for us to call. Even Mike Vanderjagt isn't the sure-thing kicker he once was.
Get real. We're going to keep 2 kickers on the roster and cut one of those guys (S-t-r-a-i-t). Amazing how some of you think.
im amazed how people on this board can't spell player names... sean ellis and derrick straight all the time on this board.
Believe me, I DO NOT think nuge sucks. For gods sake look at my avatar, and nuge is even my wallpaper on my desktop, and I have his jersey (not an official jersey, one of those fake $20 ones, but still). I love nuge and was cheering like crazy when we picked him in the 2nd round of 05, but today's performance was pathetic. I am really, really, hoping it was just one bad game and he comes back next week looking great. But I'm just saying, if it happens again, we have to start looking around FA.
But you somehow thing Gramatica or Cortez are going to do better? Gramatica got beat out by a rookie that noone thought should have been drafted. Cortez had played for virtually every team in the NFL. I don't look at Avatars. I turn them and signatures off. It yields a more pleasant experience here.
I do not think gramatica or cortez are better, I never said that. But you have to realize, if this continues with nuge, we have to take a shot at FA, we won't have much of a choice if this continues. If he comes back next week looking fine like last year, then forget about signing a kicker.
Why? You're admitting that Gramatica and Cortez are worse, so why would we take a shot with one of them over Nugent? Even if Nugent continues like this, it's not like it will be any better with Gramatica or Cortez. They will be just as bad, probably worse.
Let's hope, that is Parcells like. This kid was a 2nd round pick because he was supposed to be the answer to any and all of our kicking issues for the next 10 years plus. His strong leg is a myth, his kickoffs aren't great, he blows 30 yarders and extra points. Anyone saying he was awesome last year didn't watch the games. (not that you said it) I still remember the Nuge running his mouth last year about having to have "ice water in your veins". At the time I loved it because it was clearly a slight on Doug Bryan, but in hindsight, he should have kept his mouth shut. If he almost blows another game for us, we should try another kicker. So far Nuge has been JAG, and I doubt it would be hard to replace his current performance.
no no no 2003, the super bowl winning patriots had a kicker by the name of vinatieri, you may have heard of him? well that year mr clutch was 25 for 34 (73.5%) with one missed extra point i'm not saying nugent is vinatieri, but it was ONE GAME...everyone misses a few...the kid will bounce back and have a great season and a great career...i wish him the best of luck
I'm saying only take a shot if this continues. If you have a kicker that can't make a FG from beyond the 5 yard line, you have a problem. Gramatica isn't that bad, but I am not gonna say he is better than nugent because he was cut. I'm basing this off nuge's good season last year and making that 49 yarder against the eags in the preseason. If nuge returns to normality the next game and so on, then everything is forgotten. But if continues to miss 30+ yarders, obviously, a move would have to be made, it's just pure logic.
It's not logic. You'd be replacing him with an even worse kicker. You're weakening your team. What kind of logic is that?
I'm not worried at all. The man just made one bad kick on an extra point and it got in his head when he had the next two kicks. He happened to miss all 3 kicks to the right. He made the PAT at the end of the game and I have a feeling that this was just one of those things that's in the past and won't happen again. I have faith in him.
