Translation: "Our gold mine of talking about Tebow which automatically engages every christian fundamentalist nut and insecure Florida Gator fan, is not available to us when Mark plays well.....we need to show he stinks, so we can talk about Tebow taking over: it makes us money"
Cimini's dumb. The big 4 issues on offense last year: Poor protection No deep threat Sanchez accuracy Schotty failing to devise game plans that take those factors into account It wasn't JUST Hunter, or JUST Shotty or JUST Sanchez. It was a combination of all of those and they all effect those numbers. Schotty's plays often took a while to develop and our protection was not adequate for it. Sanchez had to constantly force the ball before the receivers were in position. Without a deep threat, teams easily stop the run. The accuracy speaks for itself, although the other factors effect this number as well. Too many overthrows last year. We addressed deep threat. We addressed pass protection. Sanchez looks much more accurate thus far, and Schotty is gone. I think Sanchez had more long plays last game than all of last season. Part of it is also that Sanchez had a shoulder problem early last year and couldn't lift weights like he wanted to. This affected his strength which affected his accuracy. The neck injury near the end was a nail in the coffin, because Sanchez wasn't bad at all in the earlier portion of the year. He overcame a lot of those factors, but they eventually built up.
The basic premise that Sanchez was well-protected last year is just wrong on so many fronts that it's hard to imagine that a statistical case could be made for it.
I've posted somewhere here before about the "famed" drive that won SB XLII and the praise Eli (undeservedly) got for it. While I'll take terrible stats from Mark if it means a SB win, I'm expecting Mark to exceed Eli's '07 numbers and, if history is any indicator, have some great playoff performances as well. But I'm getting ahead of myself again...
And three of them made the Pro Bowl. I know it was bad when Mangold was out, and arguably all three should not have made the Pro Bowl. But they were 22nd in Qb hits, meaning only ten OL's were better. You can argue until you are blue in the face, but the fact that they were worse than in prior years does not mean they were "terrible" COMPARED TO THE REST OF THE OL'S IN THE LEAGUE.
This kind of post is more like a statement of religious belief than an opening to have a real discussion on the merits. The statistical case in fact has been made. What has not been made is a real, objective, plausible argument against it. WHat has instead been made by the Sanchez apologists for last year is your type of post "JUST WRONG!" or some variation of "I don't care what the stats say! I'd rather believe my lying pro-Sanchez eyes!"
If you want to follow me around you should really do a better job of it, then you would know that is hardly the argument I am making. But let's take the Pro Bowl. I mentioned it not because I think it is the sole evidence in support of my position. But do you really think if there was some general awareness around the league that the Jet OL was TERRIBLE last year, meaning compared to the rest of the league as compared to the high expectations of Jet fans spoiled by excellent protection in the past and going to absurd lengths to defend Sanchez, that three of them would have made it to the Pro Bowl? I guess no one was paying attention other than Sanchez fans, huh? Now it is of coures entirely correct to note that sometimes, many times, Pro Bowl selections are not all that accurate. But that does not mean that they are worthless and have no relevance. And for the record I am not really asking you to follow me around more than you do already. That was a rhetorical point.
This. I don't care what those stats claim to say, if you watched the games last year, the offensive line SUCKED and Sanchez had no running game and no time to throw. Mainly because of the none enitity Hunter. You saw last Sunday the difference one player can make, especially on the offensive line.
Your arrogant, condescending remarks that tend to focus on semantics rather than football are boring and often incorrect. The fact that you think I "follow you around" is hilarious and just more evidence of your unwarranted arrogance. This is a public message board that many people frequent and have conversations. Obviously people who post often will respond to many posts. There is no way D'Brick played at a pro-bowl level last year. Mangold missed 1/4 of the season with an injury and probably played another 1/4 at less than 100%. Moore looked like a shell of his normal self although he was good in pass protection, you expect him to be a mauler in the run game. WFH was an absolute disaster and an offensive line is about as strong as it's weakest link. Sanchez often held the ball too long, the protection was also generally poor, the WR's often failed to get separation and the coordinator generally had his head up his ass.
Why do you bother? He has never really displayed even an average understanding of the game of football and seems to take up losing arguments because they strike him as a challenge, even though he fails over and over again to do those challenges any justice. Writing ten paragraphs of meaningless rhetoric seem to be his best effort in the absence of a convincing argument about football.
It is impossible that Sanchez was the 5th lowest pressured QB last season. Either the stat is wrong or the way they calculate it is wrong
You can cherry pick stats to make a case for just about anything you want to come up with. This was just more bullshit sensationalism from what seems to me to be an overwhelmingly anti-Jets media. Even after the excellent game Sanchez had on Sunday all I've heard from the media is how the Bills defense was so bad that Sanchez's performance didn't really mean anything. Let the haters continue to hate - fuck em.
I was about to ask if the guy got that article idea from Big Blocker. Sacks are also very important, it's not JUST about hits, unless you think Sanchez is at fault for almost all the sacks, and he certain wasn't. I don't agree that there were only 10 lines better than ours last year. That's simply not possible with Sanchez being the 5th most sacked guy in the league. Last year injuries played a role. Watch our line be the top dog this year again, and people be shocked out of their minds.
