Geez I thought this was a joke Ty Warren thread for a sec. DW will most likely make the practice squad. Unless of course he can gun on special teams or at the very least be useful there. Mike Westhoff although not complaining did say he has his work cut out for himself this year. (on the radio in Miami today). So Warren can make the team if he is good/useful on special teams. Special Teams is the big/huge window of opportunity for any young player on the bubble. Actually, this team is dying for good special teams players and at the very least there may be 2-3 roster spots open as a direct result.
This thread is interesting....I just read this today on Cimini's blog: 1. Rookie S Donovan Warren, an undrafted free agent from Michigan who turned some heads in the spring, appears to be in serious jeopardy of getting cut. Asked about Warren's progress, Ryan gave a lukewarm evaluation -- and that might be overstating it. "He's been up and down," Ryan said. "Today was a bad day." Specifically, Ryan said he busted a coverage on a flat route during the goal-line drill.
Yeah read my post #19 above) to get better quotes from Ryan about Warren. Warren did not look good today in scrimmage drills. The flat route he blew probably wasn't during the scrimmage drill because that was in past reference to his other bad days. Warren is definitely on the bubble tho. Like I said we'll get a better idea of Warren in some pre-season games.
Lots of potential depth at safety with potentially 6 guys who could be rostered (assuming Lowery is switched) I'm more concerned at where our depth is at corner..
Just read an article that he's cut. Mainly his injuries prevented him from showing what he truly has. I was really pulling for the kid too. Oh well.
I don't doubt it. He had that concussion early on and wasn't able to play much since. Maybe he can tryout for a team next year.
I'm pretty sure at this point that they could have put him on IR without passing him through waivers if they had wanted to. The fact that they didn't means they just didn't want to pay him for the entire season, use of one of their 6 IR spots, and have no chance of playing him.
Rather have Warren over Woohead... Warren can play a little safety as well, and is really versatile. We really don't need 5 RB's..
Well I have to say it shouldnt be a surprise to anybody at all that Warren is not on the active roster. Theres no way the jets would take him over someone like Smith/Ihedibo/Pool/Leonhard who all have played the position and have proven on the field that they can do it. I mean Warren is a project coming off of mutliple injuries and learning a new position. There is no realistic way the team would ever have started this guy. And with all that odds SHOULD be pretty good that hell clear through waivers. And if he does I hope hes first in line for a position on the practice squad. That way if Smith/Pool dont work out after this year well have a guy ready to step in who knows the system next year.
Rex mentioned him possibly getting a shot on the practice squad. I hope he clears waivers because I do have a good feeling about him, although it was pretty unrealistic for him to make the active roster this year.
You're joking, right? Warren was inconsistent in camp and plagued with injuries. Woodhead can catch like a WR, run like a RB, and play ST. The more versatile and more consistent player is Woodhead. Bonus that Woodhead is not injured. The Jets will keep the best players, not fill in for depth with mediocre or sub-par players.
