I think Phizer should make a new drug just for Met fans. Inferiorizapan. Maybe it could also treat attention deficit disorder because Met fans like you are always looking in the direction of the Bronx.
I'm not sure what that's supposed to mean. I never said they were. I'm just saying that Clemens isn't going to bring in a ton of revenue that the Yankees wouldn't have had without him.
This is a really crappy thing for baseball. If I'm a loyal player to my club, then I don't want this guy on my team. He doesn't care who he plays for as long as the check is nice. Even if he helps me win, I wouldn't want a hired gun on my team.
Alio, to be honest, when I heard this on the radio I actually thought of you. I said to myself that I know of a relatively young Yankee fan, I figure you for about 32ish, certainly NOT a kid, but is an avid Yankee fan that actually gives fair and objective opionions on the Yankees.
The funny thing is, us 30-something Yankees have seen the same amount of bad years as the 50-something Yankees fans...
You know NOTHING about the business side of baseball, so I don't know why you'd want to have that as a topic. If you did know anything about it, you would know that the reason the Yankees can have such a high payroll is that they bring in a ton of revenue. There is also a limit to how much you can bring in. The stadium only has so many seats, and most of the time they're filled, with Clemens or without him. It's not like with Matsuzaka or Pedro where it opened up a new market for the team (ie Japan and the Dominican Republic, respectively). Clemens was NOT brought in for any type of business deal other than to help get a playoff share.
You sure do talk about Mets fans an awful lot. I think many Mets fans are baseball fans and like to discuss baseball topics, some of which deal with the Yankees.
It's one thing to discuss the topic, another to try and bash everything the Yankees do like that guy does.
In all honesty, other than the publicity stunt itself, the main thing that bothers me is that a Yankee lifer like Bernie wouldn't have gotten nearly as warm of a reception as Clemens did. By the reception he got you would've thought that they cloned Whitey Ford in his prime to save the rotation. However, even as a Met fan, I can see how much this move helps the Yankees. I mean, their rotation is shoddy in its current condidtion at best. 5 inning pitcher or not, it's 5 innings of quality rather than the 5 innings of poop. Until there's a salary cap or something to that nature, they can spend as much as they want on players and as much as I hate it, my hate goes toward the MLB for not doing a little something to level the playing field. Nothing can go towards Steinbrenner when there are no rules regarding a maximum salary towards a player. But that's a different topic for a different time.
It has been shoddy, but starters are getting healthy and things are improving. The shoddy label is from when Moose and Wang were out. That is not the case anymore.
