In my draft I scoffed at Green being a top 10 rated player. LT is a proven red zone back, so it doesn't surprise me that he gets the touches. I still want to see Greene get plenty of touches, because LT is 31 and I don't want to ignore that. He is going to wear down. Its science. Greene's pad level is still where it should be in terms of beating 1 on 1 battles against defenders. Its a matter of hitting the hole the way LT does and exploding into the second level. He did it last season, but I see he really hasn't hit his timing yet with the line. this Sunday is a great opportunity to find it.
Smart man. I saw LT as the far more explosive back and easily the much better value. I feel bad for guys who took Mathews/Greene with their first two picks. But not really.
Anyone else notice Slauson beating his guys and then be completely oblivious to 2nd level blocking oppertunities? there was one play where i think it was LT cutback cuz Slauson opened a hole and Slauson wasnt looking at a defender he couldve blew up. as bad as Faneca got at pass pro I do miss seeing these next level blocks. Slauson has been a pleasant surprise minus a cple penalties. hopefully Callahan gets this guy aware of missed oppertunities that will only improve his game. Slauson is just now seeing live action just hope it comes in time
I was one of those who bought into getting Greene early, but to my satisfaction i picked up LT in the garbage rounds. So one cost me too much and the other too little, its just choosing who to play and its easy at the moment with the way LT has picked it up.
Greene was awesome in the playoffs last year. If Greene can return to that form, the Jets running game will be in great shape. :jets:
I'm breaking down and sitting him this week, so... Play him. He'll bust out since he's on my bench. hmy:
I saw some of that. I remember seeing a lot of it from Mangold in his rookie season. Slauson seems like a pretty smart guy and I think he's progressing well, penalties aside. The master plan seems to be working so far. Hopefully Ducasse isn't as much of a cement-head as he seems to be and can step in at RT in 2011, because Woody looks pretty bad.
Woody had a bad first game, but has been better since then. He's not elite, but is a steady run blocker.
He's playing like he's hurt. I really watched him closely in the second half of the Phins game, and I know what it looks like to see a player favor his back. Woody is still Woody, he's got great technique and he knows how to apply his leverage well, but the ideal situation is to get as young as possible on the line, as Mangold steps into a leadership role for the group. Hopefully Mangold is that type of guy.
We should also keep in mind that we have played two great interior run defenses and Greene is an inside runner. I think that's why LT has had more touches and more success. Although I'm sure the fumbles in the first game didn't help him.
If Greene is ever gonna breakout, this week is the game to do it. He really needs to show something or LT will do to Greene what CM did to Lamont Jordan. That is, make him almost irrevelant.
I don't think so, Cman. The Jets made Greene look like a bust up until the Raiders game, and then gave him spotty carries until the playoffs. They're saving his legs for the postseason, just like they did in 2009, bank on it.
Hopefully Greene and LT both just run the ball at will and we can even get McKnight some carries. Rex said he will probably be active this week.. so I guess they are anticipating running the ball a ton and want a 3rd back in there to take a few touches.
Do you think they did that on purpose last year? If they did them im all for it again, but i think it just kinda happened and to think itll just happen like that again, i just dont know. Id rather see them get the whole team up to speed and then set cruise control before the playoffs.
Greene is the type of back that is going to wear down in the latter part of the season because of his running style, so keeping his legs fresh until the end is a good idea. Even if it was a coincidence for the way it worked out last season, it would still be a good idea to follow the same pattern.
