Yup. This is why I don't get Dolphins fans coming over here and bashing him. If the Fins put up massive points, Henning would get the praise, but since it sucked, they'll come over here and roast Sparano instead to gloat. Can't have it both ways.
I would love to have Haley in charge of our passing game while Sparano heads up the running game. Plus they'd be Rex's picks.
I'm not knocking Haley(like him better than Sparano), but I'm not sure I like the whole split ... "passing game / running game" co-ordinators...... seems like more fractured chain-of-command and that's not what this team needs.
I was just sitting here and thinking about that too actually. How would it work exactly? Would one guy be in charge of calling plays and when he wants to call a run play (assuming Haley calls the plays, he asks Sparano what play to call) or vice versa. What happens with audibles, etc...? We have a braindead qb as is, who could not handle the addition of small wrinkles on a weekly basis. If, heaven forbid, he is the qb next year, will dealing with 2 people make his head explode?
My thoughts as well. They need simplified no-bullshit leadership, and not to make things more complicated.
I would assume that Haley would be in charge of designing and running the offensive playbook in practice (in consultation with Sparano), coaching the offense in passing drills and being on the sideline to make corrections in-game. I would assume that Sparano would do the same with the running drills and be the primary voice on offense, as well as the play caller. I would also assume both of them would come up with a gameplan for every game, and that each week the passing playbook would be limited to what they will use in that game. Sparano will run the offense based off what Haley designs and they discuss in meetings. The two-headed OC thing can work. And I think Sparano and Haley are smart enough to make it work. Both have been part of successful offenses. Schotty never was. I think some of you guys are taking the "two OC" thing way too literally. One will be the voice of the offense, the other will have a strong hand in designing part of it and coaching the players during the game.
So what are they gonna do rock paper scissors to find out if they're gonna run or pass and who gets to call the play? If we need 2 guys to replace 1 SCHOTTY maybe he wasn't that bad after all? GEEZ
That makes sense. But it also seems like it can cause some problems in the first few games, especially if Peyton Manning is not the qb.
My assumption from what I read is bringing me towards Sparano is going to be the official OC and Haley would be assistant HC I'm not sure where you guys are getting the rest of that news about one being in charged of running/passing I haven't read that anywhere.
Why? It would be no different than having one OC like every other team, because there would only BE one OC. If Haley were brought on board, I think all of his "work" would be done behind the scenes on a game to game basis, and he would be in charge of running the passing drills in practice. I don't see how that's different than having an OC and a QB/WR coach. One takes care of the gameplan and in-game execution, the other does the legwork. Our QB/WR coach would just also have a say in designing the plays.
Multiple beat writers have Tweeted that Haley would be the passing game coordinator with the title of assistant head coach.
So I'm assuming Haley is going to be the one creating the passing plays and Sparano the running plays but at the end I think it'll be Sparano calling 100% of the plays.
What has been written everywhere starting last week was that Sparano and Haley might go somewhere as a team..as the Jets had a OC at the time and there was no open assistant HC job anywhere the assumption was that one who be more involved in the running game and one in the passing game.
Exactly. To think that it's so black and white, where only Haley is calling plays when we want to pass and only Sparano is calling plays when we want to run is totally foolish. I don't even want to jump the gun, because we don't have Haley. I just really hope we can get him.
Hey I'm all for this! Since Payton is kind of busy on Sundays with his other gig, we can have either Sporano or Haley call him, tell him the down and distance, and get the playcall. Is there any way we can get Drew Brees to call the audibles for Mark too?
Regarding field goal Tony, I'll take a field goal over a turnover every day. Lets get back to the ground and pound.
