I think we got a good Offensesystem, and should stick with it, but simular to our D we don?t have the right personal to run it effective enough. Adding a FB isn?t the only way to make our runninggame more effective. If we add a good H-Back (Eric Johnson is my favorite, but Ben Troupe would also be nice) and a viable #3WR (I hope Stucky can develope, but there are other posibilites in Draft and FA), our Runninggame will get better because the D has to respect those two as a thread in the passinggame, and can?t focus on the run as they did the last two years. Going back to I-Formation as regular offense, would be a step back, imo. We should stick with our system and find the right players to play it, just like on D. And it wouldn?t help Clemens to put him into a completley differnt system. Of course we still got the O-Line problem, but that?s a different thing.
Well, let's agree to hope that our roster is changed in several significant ways before next season...
Lorenzo Neal blocks for 1,000 yards rushers. It's just what he does. Bring him in. He won't as for much. He's a Fresno State Bulldog -- he'll play hard-nosed on every play. Neal was a stud running back for the Bulldogs when he was in college. I guess he was too slow to play RB in the NFL, so he made the transition -- and he'll be in the Hall of Fame because of that nice switch.
With Callahan controlling the oline and running game a new blocking FB is a possiblity. Neal would be a solid addition if he's available.
Neal was fast enough to play RB in the NFL as evidenced by his 74-yard run against Atlanta in 1993 (I faintly remember the play). In his rookie season of 1993 he gained 89 yards rushing in Week 1 and 86 yards in Week 2. He injured his ankle in the second game and was lost for the season. His rookie stats: 2 starts at tailback, 21 carries, 175 yards, 1 TD. In large part due to the ankle injury, he was moved to fullback in 1994. The Jets traded him to the Buccaneers on 3-12-98. The draft pick the Jets acquired was used to select Blake Spence.
I guess he still might be the best. Others to consider for that title are Tony Richardson (another old guy), Greg Jones, Justin Griffith, and Lawrence Vickers.
It is Art Monk. You can tell it is a 1994 game due to the patch on Chris Spielman's jersey. Chris Burkett retired after the 1993 season.
