Pats went 1-3 vs NFC teams and still came out just fine. Key is, if we lose NFC games, I'd rather lose to the Saints and the Falcons as opposed to the Bucs and the Panthers. I honestly don't think anyone in the AFC East will beat the Falcons and I think the Saints will go 3-1 vs AFC East. That being said, starting 0-1 is not the end of the world. Many playoff teams last year did just that.
Just because I don't share your beautiful dream and live in the dark like a mushroom eating up all the shit the team feeds you, doesn't mean I'm wrong. To draft Smith before the 3rd round was a reach, no one wanted him except the Eagles and even they weren't going to reach into the 2nd round to get him. To draft Smith and cut McElroy was horrible, not even going to jump in the Garrard crap. Now we sign Brady F@cking Quinn who is a piece of shit and guarantee him $750,000.
Its one thing to provide opinions about the team and players. It is quite another to openly hope that the Jets starting QB is injured. That, my friend, is despicable.
the individual game itself isnt the most important of the season but it sure would go a long way to start off with a win. especially in this media climate right now. im not saying the medai has any bearing on the team or anything like that, and a lot of players dont even pay attention to that shit once the season starts, but it would go a long way toward letting everyone know just how wrong the media has been about the jets. this game means more for us fans than anyone else i would think. but the team owes us, ok they dont really owe us anything at all, but you know what i mean... so they should want to go out there and punch the bucs right in the mouth
Of course this game is important! And not for some of the reasons listed. The QB situation will make it interesting, no doubt, but I'm always anxious to see how THE TEAM plays as a whole against a regular season opponent IN A GAME THAT ACTUALLY FINALLY COUNTS! So much to watch: 1) Is the O-Line as good as we think it is? 2) Can our receivers catch... and particularly against Revis-caliber players? 3) Can we actually run the ball? 4) Is our DEF line and LBs as good as we think they are? 5) Are our DBs going to cut the mustard? 6) Special Teams... did we get that fixed? This game isn't important. It's critical! It's the only game of the year right now!
It is important as it's a winnable game in a difficult schedule, tie-breakers don't matter when most of us think we are a 5-11 to 7-9 team. I think we will win ugly and I will settle for that.
problem isnt your opinion problem is that you rather have a bad season and a bad qb then if he proves you wrong. Imo Sanchez wont improve from what he is he might look better on MM offense but he is careless with the football. Geno had a very low int/td ratio. Even if he is no Brees he can be effective if not exposed.
Week 1 is never a must win but it's as close as one could be for a team that could use a jolt of confidence from a week 1 win especially w/ NE 4 days later and the prospects of quickly starting 0-2.
LOL, champ does have a son and he used to post here - "BURN in HELL WOODY". This guy isn't him, though.
Saying a must win in week 1 is a stretch but in this case I think it's a must win for us...week 2 is a guaranteed loss and starting 0-2 with a rookie qb would allow the media firestorm to triple what it is now and I don't think geno has the mental toughness to deal with the drama...it's certain our head coach doesn't...and the players know it's Rex's last year essentially so a poor start to the season would almost guarantee he loses credibility in the locker room along with his job
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CHpvhb5VMD0 A bit off topic tho but all true jet should see it before season opener worth it
The opener is always exciting for me. Of course I want us to win, but it is only one game if we don't.
If the Jets start 0-1 they can finish 15-1. Every game in the NFL is important because it's only a 16 game season. Looking ahead at the schedule and making assumptions without having seen a single game is silly.
This is basically a must win because if we want any chance of doing anything this season we much be 3-1 after the first quarter of the season. If you look at the sched. after the first four games, we could easily go 0-5.
The opener is really important. I haven't had the chance to watch Jets football in more than 8 months now and I'm really looking forward to doing that.
I don't think the opener is super important to win, but the Jets need to get a win in the first couple of weeks to have a decent season I think. 2-2 start would be great. If we start 0-3 or something, we will be picking number 2 or 3 in the draft
