I'm reading that Von Miller might be on the trade block

Looking at the Pats as a model. Over the last 10 years they have drafted more players than any other team in the NFL by a lot. They tend to draft D a little more than O but they don't over emphasize skill, they go trenches on both sides of the ball. Not to say they don't pick their spots.

They have also unloaded high priced A plus talent in their prime to preserve cap space. Chandler Jones, Vince Wolfork, Nate Solder and probably the best defensive player Richard Seymour. They have always been willing to dump high priced talent a couple of years to soon to keep their cap in tact.

Von Miller is an A+ talent. He will be expensive which means other holes can't be filled and he will take draft capital.

We brought in a new GM to improve our drafting. This team is rebuilding, we are not a pass rusher away from being a SB contender. Von Miller is right on the edge of decline. When we might be able to contend is unknown. I doubt it's this year and next. No way you give up picks for Miller.

That’s exactly why I asked “Can we afford him?” At the expense of what other badly needed talent? Cap space? He’d come at a cost that most likely won’t make him worth it.

I have to agree (and it's not often
I disagree with Colorado) one 1st round pick never gets traded down for 4 top picks.

FWIW - I don't want us to give up a 1st for someone (who is is undoubtedly a great) who may give us a year or two production after yearso of top production, I want us to use that pick for the same sort of player that will give US the top level production for years before we trade him away.

just have to draft a 7-time pro bowler and Super Bowl MVP with the picks saved. so we don't have to burden ourselves with the old guy, Von Miller

    no biggie

jachai polite sign with anyone yet?

I totally agree. I know a lot of people really want to grab a WR in the first round, but O-line is so much more important. A top WR is not as important as it used to be; it seems like most of the best offenses are focusing on getting good, quick slot receivers and at least one good tight end. Welker, Gaffney, Hogan, Amendola, and Edelman would have been no names on any team without a top notch QB. Look at the Chiefs: Other than Kelce, most of their receivers are post-4th rounders; Mahomes makes them effective, not the other way around.

Our priority should be giving Darnold time to throw. He made things happen last year with just about the same receiving corps. He's actually already pretty close to set with his receiving corps. Anderson, Herndon, and Crowder are a great trio of targets; honestly, they're pretty ideal for today's style of offensive play. I actually don't think that receiver is really a major priority right now, especially considering how bad our line is. I say get a few O-line guys, and probably an edge rusher.

Draft picks were worthless with Mac making them, but it isn't usually like that. And if it remains like that under Douglas, we aren't contending no matter what we do. So we have to hold onto our picks (and get more if possible) and hope Douglas knows what he's doing. At least that way we have a shot.

I think acquiring a future hall of fame pass rusher gives us a shot too. crazy thought

I say we go DL 1st round. We need a solid 3-tech guy right next to Big Baby!

No it doesn't. One superstar (unless he's a QB) doesn't turn around a team. If it did, Denver would be winning right now. It's impossible for this team to contend for anything more than a fringe playoff spot for at least another year or two. At which point odds are Miller won't be producing at an elite level anymore.

They won with the Von Miller of four years ago. And they also had a ton of other great players and Wade Phillips calling the D. Put 2019 Miller on this roster or even the best roster we can hope to achieve for 2020, and we aren't contending for anything.

Just to clarify, the 4 picks include the 1st rounder from the team trading with us. In other words, we swap 1st round picks, and then we get three additional high picks, possibly one from next year, which is what we did with the Colts.
