Great news. He'll be a great addition to the DL. I'm sure Tannenbaum and Mangini talked to Parcells about him, and Parcells gave him a ringing endorsement. He's got great size, still young, and played very well as a backup last year... hell, he was the best lineman on the Cowboys last year, and the only reason he didn't start was because the Cowboys didn't want to admit that the Spears and Canty picks might have been mistakes.
It's all well and good that we are building up the D-line. Especially since we can swap out Kimo with this guy. But what we really need is a big bull of a NT like Wilkfork to clog the middle. Till we get that our D-line is still going to be sub-par.
Well, it's on the Jets official website and Tannenbaum himself announced it on WFAN, so you don't have to worry about this not being for real.
You should just copy and paste the same post about every player we sign that isn't on your dream sheet. Or maybe you already do.
i think that basically when your in the nfl sometimes you might get put into the wrong division. now that he is in the afc east it could resurrect his career. its a whole new ball game for him different matchups and so forth so he will be alright
I think the Jets are collecting Colemans. Eric Coleman, Drew Coleman, and now Kenyon Coleman. I am just waiting for us to make Gary Coleman an assistant coach now. Just kidding, I am happy with this signing. For a good line, you have to be able to rotate in players, to keep people fresh. So that means, 6-8 d-linemen. Very good pick-up.
The Jets are building some quality depth on the defensive line. They still desperately need a stud to lead it though. Ellis and D-Rob would be much better as supporting players with a Wilfork or Seymour as the leader of the unit. I expect at this point to see a rotation next season that includes D-Rob and somebody else at the nose and D-Rob and Coleman alternating at left end. Ellis needs to move over to right end if he's going to get his pass rushing ability back. It's way too tough to fight through the TE and a tackle on every passing down. That's one of the huge reasons that his sack production stayed depressed last year. At least we'd better hope that was the reason. If the big contract finished him then we're gonna need to replace him really fast.
In Dallas, he was only come in during 3rd down in 4-man front to rush the QB; his role was more of 4-3 DT.
Well, this really isn't a backup contract...he's def'n goint to be in the mix for a starting job. KENYON CLEANS UP A league source tells us that defensive end Kenyon Coleman, who signed with the Jets on Tuesday, will receive $20.5 million over the life of the deal, with $7 million in guaranteed money. It is, we're told, a five-year contract. It's in essence a Chris Kelsay contract. Kelsay, with 12.5 career sacks, got $13 million guaranteed from the Bills to stay put. Coleman has 6.5 career sacks. Sure, it's merely a reflection of the current market. But when those guys who are profiting from the current market are elbow-to-elbow with guys who are working under deals made in a far different market, there will be trouble. And although Giants defensive end Michael Strahan is on the back end of his prime, at best, how is he feeling about a contract that pay him $4 million in non-guaranteed salary in 2007, and another non-guaranteed $4 million in 2008? With 132.5 sacks, Strahan would surely love to get in line for a Chris Kelsay contract right now
Do you have a link for this horribly overpaid contract??? That is crazy- I would prefer that a guy is a starter based on his play, not on his contract. Hopefully he's good, but I can't see anyone else paying 20 million to a backup--
Based on his play, he deserved it...he was the best DE on the Cowboys last year with the oppurtnities given....I spoke with a close friend who is diehard cowboys and he really likes this guy.....I am usually not one to get pumped up about these under the radar signings.....but I have looked into this guy alot, and I will be suprised if he doesn't pan out for us, very suprised.....just put it that way
Huh? How is a contract with half the guaranteed money comparable?? Who knows how much of the $20m is at the back end, never to be paid? This is garbage reporting...
DE Kenyon Coleman's contract with the Jets is for five years and $20 million. $6 million is guaranteed. Looks like Coleman may not be a backup anymore. If the Jets do keep Kimo von Oelhoffen as planned, he'll certainly get less snaps. Source: New York Daily News Related: Kimo von Oelhoffen
With that contract, he's going to have to produce. It's not super high, but it's a potential contract. This guy is going to have to put up or shut up. -X-
Thats a very high conract and Im not gonna lie, I dont like it. I believe in paying players based on their play and not their potential. He needs to step up and produce more than he ever has before. However this money screams Lance Legree at me.
Only $6 million is guaranteed, so it isn't crippling...Hopefully he earns most of the $20 million...If not, it wouldn't be disastrous...But I like the guy a lot and got a FA I wanted, and Parcells easily could of given his comments to Tanny/Mangini on Coleman, plus he's 27.
