Yes, thanks.I first saw it yesterday, I think on Twitter but from Spotrac. Then I googled Dak Prescott Contract and the Spotrac bit was on the top of the page and it looked like he had signed. Upon further investigation, I saw that was for 2020. Thanks.
Cutting Anderson, Lewis, Van Roten, and trading Darnold for a 2nd round pick will give the Jets over $90M to spend this year. Crowder is very likely to have his deal reworked as well. Next year the cap will go up and we have $20M in dead cap space coming off the books. The "we can't build a winner without 4 1st round picks in the next 2 years" argument is really dulled when you consider the Jets could sign Thuney, Robinson, Maye, Dupree, Verrett, Williams and add 5 of the top 100 rookies this year and have cap space left over. You don't need a potential pro bowler at every position to field a contender, but the Jets would have a talented young team with a top 3 25 year old QB, a solid O-line, and add Dupree and 2 DB's from Saleh's top 5 passing defense to go with the front 7 that was already top 7 in YPC against the run.
I hope to one day not have a ton of cap space because we're paying good players we drafted and developed.
https://forums.theganggreen.com/thr...-jones-trask-lance.94961/page-94#post-4047399 Yesterday I posted that and you liked it at 6:33pm and still you spent all morning telling people the Cowboys signed him. I guess it's karma for calling half the board dense for disagreeing with you.
They both suck but I doubt they both get cut. Lewis is probably slightly better but has the higher cap number and dead cap. GVR is a minimal saving of around $3 million. Anderson is likely a goner but who knows. We have so much cap space that it doesn't make sense to cut depth on an extremely weak roster as it is. They're all good enough to be NFL backups at the least.
You could be right, but I think salaries are going to be down significantly this year. Van Roten has no dead cap space if cut, Lewis and Anderson each about $1.5M of dead cap space each, but they save $5.2M and $8.2M, respectively. That will go farther this year than most offseasons. With a completely new coaching staff, it's not like keeping them around will help continuity much from last year.
Could be. I might just still be a bit irked by the fact that we had the worst starting guards in the league last year, signed a lower tier free agent in GVR and still decided to cut the competition in Brian Winters. For all his flaws, we could've used him this past year.
i really think Douglas uses last year to clear Mac’s bad contracts (unfortunately mosely didn’t cooperate) roll over cap space, and try to get lucky with cheaper free agents like fant, gvr, and lewis. They were all basically one year deals unless they showed potential.
Yep. Absolute value increases, while relative value for the Jets v the competition - which is obviously more important - dips.
I thought that Clark kid coulda done something but he must be really raw will be interesting to see what happens with Alex Lewis because his benching was purely because of the fight he got into with Adam Gase. In any other season it would've been a huge deal in the media but the Jets sucked so bad it was just another story. I doubt he is back after those shenanigans but at the same time Gase is gone so who knows
I think Lewis is a goner, not because of the Gase confrontation, but because he kinda sucks. Pat Elflein outplayed him immediately...I do like Elfleins versatility, never knew he won the Rimington Trophy at Ohio State. Maybe we re-up him instead of carrying a back-up C to help open up and extra roster spot? Can never have too many versatile linemen. He's likely just a backup- 1 year 1.3M I still am excited about the potential of Cam Clark. He has the size and feet to be a really good swing T or G. I agree, guys like him (Small school and new position; RAW) take a few years in the pre-covid NFL. He didn't have that this year and battled injuries through October. Really would have liked to see him take some snaps in weeks 16 or 17. We should probably add one of these guys too Brandon Scherff, Washington Joe Thuney, Patriots Lane Taylor, Packers
