lance mehl was a beast pro bowler. Did mo lewis ever make one? Even in the short career sideline to sideline he was the best
Philbin, Elliot, Boozer got hurt, Biggs left as a FA, Sauer quit, Namath was toast and everyone else got old. RDJ good call on Mehl very solid LB one of the best without a doubt.
Mo made 2 more than Lance and more importanly Mo was an All-Pro which Lance never was. I think Mehl probably would have been the best if his career wasn't ruined by injuries.
Anyone of 3 from the 60's was the best Jet LB, Al Atkinson, Larry Grantham or Ralph Baker. Honorable mention to Lance Mehl, Kyle Clifton, Mo Lewis, Stan Blinka, Bob Crable, Chad Cascadden, Greg Buttle, Jamie Rivers....
Jamie Rivers? Chad Cascadden? Stan Blinka? Bob Crable? I'm guessing you threw in some names as a joke?
Fully agree about the 3 60s LBers. Poster vote for players they saw play & since most on this board NEVER saw the 60s LBers they do not vote them which makes all these "all" time polls most silly Here is exctly what I mean But I'm too young to have been able to see guys like Grantham and Buttle play.
This post is pure hypocrisy. You're always complaining that no one knows the history of the organization...yet when younger people show an interest in the early days and try to start a discussion you take offense b/c they never saw the players? Makes a whole lot of sense to me.
Ah read the bottom of my post from another poster that is why this & EVERY "all" time posts are just plain silly. In case you missed it here it is again But I'm too young to have been able to see guys like Grantham and Buttle play.
There are two ways in which this question can be addressed in objective terms. If the question is who was the best Jets linebacker based on how he performed during his era of play relative to his linebacker peers, then Grantham has to be considered the clear winner. However, if the question is based on pure ability in a more present era perspective, then Mo Lewis is the easy winner simply because Larry, at 6'0" and 210 lbs (three inches shorter and only one pound heavier than Kerry Rhodes) could never survive much less play the linebacker position in Mo Lewis' era. Having said all that, I believe David Harris will establish himself as our all time best linebacker during the next 3-5 years.
This is always true, so IMO any comparison has to be relative to the era. After all, there is every reason to think that players from earlier times would have taken advantage of all of the advances in sports training and medicine then if they had been available, so they wouldn't have looked now like they did then.
Servicable players. not great players...Like I said anyone of 3 from the 60's was the best Jet LB, Al Atkinson, Larry Grantham or Ralph Baker.
We will agree to disagree because Baker and Atkinson were just as good as Grantham and better than Lewis and Vilma, but even with Lance Mehl....
