I don't like talking about receiver "depth charts". Each guy plays a different position. I guess if you had to put him on the depth chart in terms of talent, he'd be third behind Decker and Kerley.
I get the depth ... but I don't see the upside portion. career avg of 3 catches for 44 yds a game, and that is only because he had one big year with Farve throwing him the ball. One year deal, with little or no guarenteed money except in performance bonus's.
I doubt it would stop the Jets from drafting a WR. http://www.kffl.com/player/20748/nfl/injury_history/percy-harvin
signing Rice wouldn't deter the Jets from doing anything draft wise. and i don't think WR will be the BPA at 18 anyways.. can't just rely on draft to fill out needs of a team.
stop with these threads, idzik is a penny pinching cap specialist, unless its dirt cheap, forget about it
This is the type of signing you make AFTER the draft. Jets are just doing thier homework on the guy. Idzik already has a read on him from his Seattle days so I guess they are seeing if he's healthy and gauging his level of interest in the Jets.
It wouldn't deter them from drafting WR in the first, it would just lower the need factor on their draft board and help them go BPA in a more pure sense. And if the BPA at 18 is a WR then the odds of a successful WR are raised.
Sydney Rice will provide some depth to the WR unit. I think it would be a good signing. Obviously he's not going to be the 2nd coming of Reggie Wayne, but he's a better option than most of what we had the past 2 years. Decker - Rice - Kerley - Nelson/Hill/Draft pick(s), wouldn't be bad at all. I'd still like to see a 1st / 2nd round WR in the mix as well, and believe that we will get that no matter what.
I agree with everything, even the double meaning you've got in the last sentence... We are trying to get a really old man. Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk
it's a very real possibility.. you don't take a position in the first 2 rounds just because it is a need. what if Lewan, Dennard or Barr are sitting there in the first, and ASJ in the second? I'd be very pumped with those selections, and there is still the chance to get Landry after.. of course there are a lot of solid WR's to be had, so the odds are we end up with one early. it's just not a lock. could come after the first 2 rounds.
Decker and Rice do not. Sidney Rice does exactly what Decker does - they are both possession receivers. I would much rather have an explosive guy next to Decker. If the Jets get Cooks or Lee, Rice will be the 4th most talented. He will barely get any reps on this team so the Jets must consider cost.
With what? There was talk earlier in the week that the Giants have interest in him. Oh, and they already got two..Jennings and DRC.
I see us going CB then WR in the 1st 2 rounds, and it could go either way as to which position gets picked first.
If it went Dennard (CB) and Matthews (WR) i'd be thrilled. I'm not overly excited about the CB options in the 2nd round, but never know. My point is that it can go in any direction based on BPA, so we might as well add some WR depth just in case.
If I were o take a chance on a cheap FA WR , Rice would not be the guy,,,,,the guy I like but I am not sure of his health status is Danario Alexander ,,,,,,,,this guy yes
That's opinion, which I agree with, he is old, but Jesus! Does he have to post the same fuckin comments in every fuckin thread?!
