Exactly. Rex pumping up Schotty as a brilliant HC candidate is completely disingenuious. No amount of him fellating Schotty will have any sway with decision makers in this league and just makes Rex look like a moron. If he is canned (a big IF and I'm not convinced he will be) more than likely the guy is done in the NFL much less getting an OC job. Who would hire the guy to be an OC much less an HC??? Mindboggling to me.
exactly. the only possible thing i can think of is that rex is talking him up in hopes that some dumbass team will think he must be good and take a chance with him as a HC (maybe because he knows the front office sucks him off 24/7 and will never fire him and he knows this offense will suck as long as hes here)... which i think is both histerical and pathetic because i dont think its going to work... CAN HIS ASS! WE'VE SUFFERED ENOUGH!
Lol you know how Rex is, hes never going to talk shit about staff/players but that doesn't mean they won't be fired. He praised the shit out of Mason right before he got traded. As long as we still have a shot at the playoffs Shotty will be here.
I'm with you. How can a team sell it's fanbase on a Head Coach that has had very little success in the league. If Rex can sell him off to another team he's the ultimate salesman. I mean I guess there are two things he has going for him. He is the son of a coach, and he called a few good games in the playoffs. Other than that we have an OC who for 6 years never finished with a top 10 offense and 4 of the 6 years finished bottom 3rd of the league. Yes he never had a big time QB but Pennington, Favre, and Sanchez are not the bottom of the barrel. For the most part during that stretch the Jets have had a pretty solid run game as well. I give him credit for that but it just makes his deficiencies in the passing game more glaring. offense ranks Year Pts Yds 2006 18 25 2007 25 26 2008 9 16 2009 17 20 2010 13 11 2011 9 27
there is absolutely no way schotty gets a hc job coming off his tenure with the jets. but it would be fun to see.
His last name is Shottenheimer so I wouldn't be surprised but I'm sick of his bullshit so happy whether he's fired or a HC for another team, Hopefully for the Dolphins so we can whoop his ass twice a year for years to come.
yes your def right about that... thats why its so hard to hope we squeak into the playoffs knowing that if we do schittbag will probably stick around... i just hope the front office has had enough of this putrid "system" of his and decides its time to end this circle jerk of a coaching tenure (which has absolutely nothing to do with his last name being what it is)
All I can do is hope and pray that Rex's praise for him makes some sucker team hire him. That would be great, especially if it was Bills or Phins. But who knows, he might be a good HC, simply because he won't have to design and call plays.
Schotty's resume: Overall Rush Pass Pts TD's 2006 Chad 25th 20th 17th 18th 22nd (17) 2007 CP/KC 26th 19th 25th 25th 28th (26) 2008 Favre 16th 9th 16th 9th 4th (48) 2009 20th 1st 31st 17th 18th (37) 2010 11th 4th 22nd 13th 19th (39) 2011 27th 22nd 21st 9th 6th (43) Stats are not everything but the sample size is large enough and a pattern is well established. Anybody who hires this guy based on his body of work deserves whatever it is they have coming to them. Who knows in this league, though. Herm, Mangini and Kotite all got hired after disasters in their previous jobs just to name a few.
I love when sports people go through all sorts of contortions to not have to give a square answer to a square question. Rule Number One when it comes to figuring out if a sports figure is lying: they repeat the question back to you. Rule Number Two: Like a quick punch to the jaw, they say something absolutely absurd to try make your head spin long enough so that they can move on to another questioner. Almost reminds me of when that flock of idiots that takes up space in the Jets press room asked Herm if he was interested in leaving for KC to succeed Dick Vermeil, and he answered: "As far as I'm concerned, I'm the Jets coach. Period." (Geezus, how I miss that guy's pressers.)
I don't know, I think SOMEone high up (Tannenbaum? Woody? if not Rex) thinks highly enough of him to keep him around another year. It really pisses me off but I think he's back. And I don't know what I'm gonna do. I almost can't bear to watch that offense any more.
Although Ryan mostly sidestepped the issue earlier in the week, Friday marked his most definitive show of support for Schottenheimer. When asked what would happen if Schottenheimer does not get a head coaching job this offseason, Ryan responded: “Then, I expect him back.” http://www.washingtonpost.com/sport...coaching-job/2011/12/30/gIQATpXtQP_story.html
Perfect example of a sports-speak non-answer answer. Rex saying, "I expect him back" has just the perfect amount of back-end wiggle room.
