We have a running QB as a starter and a glass QB as a backup. It’s very possible we lose both, in the same game even. We should add a 3rd guy that has at least some history of experience in the league.

People flipping out on JD for a 5th round pick not panning out are nuts. There was no way to know it wouldn't never heal. Clearly doctors were trying their hardest for the kid. If he wasn't injured in the first place, he would have gone first round. And if he did come back from injury, at a minimum, he probably would have been at least an average starter. Worth the gamble.

I just feel horrible for him. He spent his entire life to get to the NFL, made his dream come true, and never got a chance to play. He made $724k (via OverTheCap). Cool to make that much in one year, but after taxes and agent fees, I'm sure he would have preferred a long career. That's just terrible luck.

I will say this. He's no dummy. He still was working on his masters and I'd imagine he will go back to finish it. Good luck to him.

He made bank at Florida State though. College players are professionals now too. 24 years old and already likely made over a million dollars in his career. I don't feel horrible, he's got a start on his life that 99.9% of us don't

I think you need to level set what “hit on” means to you. Sherwood, Echols, Max Mitchell, Clemons, Ruckert all contributed.

This is an evergreen comment about Jets GM's. Tannenbaum was the last GM we had who could be considered "decent".

In his defense I'll counter with his success with UDFA's - which makes no sense actually. I agree his lower round hit rate was poor.

id bring in Ridder myself. He’s still available. Not a world beater but starting experience and a good, young, backup

Last year they had an opportunity to move up in the mid rounds, but didn’t, because they wanted to select Mr. Irrelevant. They stayed put in the mid rounds and took a broken QB. Mr irrelevant has been.. irrelevant

so it was two wasted picks, and a missed opportunity.

    Thanks Joe D

He was never 1st or second round player. Too weak of an arm coupled with smaller size, he wasn't going high. Maybe he could have snuck in at the tai end of the 3d, or 4th without the injury. But he was a good college player who could have been a Tyrod Taylor like. Could start some and be a good back-up. Which is good, but not someone you consider 1st or 2nd round player, even when healthy.

As far as Travis retiring making the draft look worse, absolutely not. We have a young promising starter. We have a rock solid back-up. Why do we need to spend a 4th round pick on a low probability hit 3d string QB, when we need a starter at WR, Safety, DT, DE, and second string at multiple position? In the 4th round we picked two positions which need a starter. QB is 3d string need for us, which is best retrieved from the PS anyway without wasting a roster spot on a 3d string QB. Heck, even in the 5th round, we got a LB and DE, where we need a main back-up and a starter.

3d sting QB is just not a priority right now. Next year - sure. Tyrod may be gone, and depending on how Fields does, we may need to pick a QB in the 1s round. But this year we had too many holes to fill, and QB was not one of them. Travis retiring doesn't change anything at all, it's not like we counted on him or anything like that. We have a starter and a very good back-up, and had to fill bigger needs regardless of Travis' situation.
