This has the possibility of being more of a let down game then a trap game, because the Jets aren't looking past the Broncos to their next opponent the Niners.
Broncs are just not THAT bad. Broncs can move ball -- score points. I would not take too much out of Oakland game. I think that we should hope for 4-1 in last 5 and settle for 3-2.
My wife and I will be fine. She still has the memory of watching me walk through the Denver airport in my Mo Lewis jersey the day of the 1998 AFC Championship game when one of the dudes that drives those carts sees me coming, stops and yells out, "News Flash: Jets crash, Jets crash." Now, in retrospect, that probably wasn't the best thing to yell out at an airport, but he got the point across. As for my father-in-law...as long as we don't drink too much we should be fine. It is after a few too many beers that we have gotten into about politics and the like. Good times!
There are no clinching scenarios this week for the Jets. However, the Titans can clinch the fourth seed if Titans beat the Lions, and Browns beat the Colts Oh, and if that happens, and the Jets beat the Broncos, the Titans secure at least the third seed.
I think the game will be competitive, but... How can you "not take too much out of" Denver's most recent game. You say that at the beginning of the year against a team you are not familiar with. You don't say that after a Week 11 loss to a division opponent.
This is the easiest game on our remaining schedule. Doesn't mean we will win but I'm sure the crowd will be very pumped, Denver has a long trip across the country. They should be road kill.
denver game should be broken down like this - denver has a slow running game based on power mostly which should be highly ineffective against a fast powerful run defense like the jets - denvers passing game is pretty good and this is where they can hurt you but id double cover marshall all game and take my chances on royal vs the physical ty law -denver gets champ bailey back this week which should boost there pass defense but the broncos run defense is small and not very good. our old friend dewayne robertson and a bunch of small DE's make up there line and thomas jones could run wild all day personally id run the ball all day and use a ball control type gameplan to keep the ball out of denvers hands
Because football is strange. Because Jay Cutler is pretty good. Because -- if you judge one game -- to the exclusion of all others -- you wind up with silly results. THere was an argument on the radio today: A:Jets are 8-3 and the best team in the AFC. B:Titans have a better record. A: Jets killed the Titans. B: Why does that mean theyre better. A: Idiot -- they killed them B: If thats true are the browns better than the Giants -- Browns beat the Giants. A: Thats different. B: Why? A. Because. B. In the next segment....
I never said you should judge the Broncos only by the Raiders game. Rather, you can't just assume it away. I have watched nearly every Broncos game this season as my wife is a lifelong fan. The fact that the Broncos made the Raiders look like a JV team in Week 1 and a contender in Week 11 can't be simply chalked up to a fluke. If you want to talk about a fluke, see Week 10 when the Broncos shutdown the Falcons running game. It is clear that the injuries to the Broncos are catching up to them. Their LB corps and RB stable has been decimated, defensive backfield has lost two key contributors, sometimes-target Nate Jackson was lost for the season and Scheffler is still banged up. Add all of that to a subpar defensive line and the defense is going to get rolled...even Cleveland did it. And when that happens the pressure is on Cutler and the offense to score every time out. I think Cutler is one of the best QBs in the league, but no QB can do it all on his own. It also doesn't help matters when the HC comes and says he thinks his kicker has lost confidence. All that being said, if Shanahan follows the "logic" of Herm Edwards and goes full-time to the spread offense than it is going to be shootout of epic proportions. The fact that Shanahan is trying to get a running game going with Peyton Hillis is a good thing for opposing teams. While Hillis may get some yards, no one is concerned about him breaking one, so they can just play the run defense straight up. And despite the fact that the Broncos are considered a high-powered offense, they have only put up more than 23 points once in their last 8 games. I still think it is going to be a pretty competitive game because of the Jets pass defense and the possibility that the defense that played in Atlanta shows up in the Meadowlands on Sunday.
mangini's crib notes for sunday. DEF: Man up on the outside, Sell out on the blitz. Send 6 every down. OFF: Get the ball back, TJ,TJ,Leon,TJ,Keller,Leon,TJ,TJ,TJ,Leon,TJ,TD.
This is the 3rd week in a row we are playing a 1st place team. This is not a time to let up and take the Broncos lightly. We need to keep up the intensity this week.
I've attended one Jets game every year at the Meadowlands for the last 5 years. Every game I've attended has been a game where they lost. I'm attending the Denver game on Sunday- let's hope to reverse the trend.
The answer is Cleveland had shown very little at that point. And continues to do so, while the Jets have been on a roll, and have shown signs of coming together for weeks before this game.
you too...I am on a four game losing streak including the MNF game in SD this season and am going to the game this Sunday.
Here is my take on Denver. The Jets need to look hard at the game against the Cardinals and the PATS in NE. The Broncos offense is similar and can attack us hard with the pass. Besides ball control and a heavy dosage of TJ and LW, our defense needs to push their OL and get to Cutler for a few hard sacks. Keep the intensity and we win...but it is not a give me.
