you are correct in that all that was on woody. if mangini was able to be here now, he would have learned from his first time around and insisted on full personnel control. or, at least the gm would have hired him and the gm would have control without owner interference.
From what I understand both Macc and Bowles report directly to Woody. Although Macc and Bowles talk about players, both of them have control over their respective fields. Macc drafts, signs, cuts players... Bowles coaches. Is there dialogue between them, I'm sure, but the fact that both of them report to the owner rather than the coach reporting to the GM is not the traditional power structure used by NFL organizations. As for Gailey, I sympathize with him because he had fitz as QB so naturally everything will suck but I also think his play calling was terrible at times. On the contrary, Rodgers and Boyer are two coaches that absolutely need to be let go. The defense and the special teams have sucked sooooo badly yesterday.
the numbers dont support gailey being horseshit ... https://www.reddit.com/r/nyjets/comments/5h0eic/gailey_is_not_the_issue/ for the past two seasons we have had guys running open through secondaries ... its the QBs that have been sub par, not gailey
Use the the eye test and that will support Gailey being horseshit. His play calling has been horrible this entire season. He's easily replaceable.
I really thought Bowles was a good fit for the Jets after the Rex Ryan circus left town. They should give him another season at the very least.
Every OC is horseshit, when you have horseshit for a QB, last year everyone was praising Chan he was the best, Fitzpatrick had a career year, oh what a difference a year makes.
And you get judged on what you did THIS year, so by your logic, Chan sucks and should be gone. Not a big loss.
Is this the first time someone has publicly acknowledged the fact that Mac and Bowles report to Woody and are on the same level? I know it's been speculated and pretty much accepted but I haven't seen it specifically written anywhere.
I thought he would tighten the ship, get everyone on the same page and hold people accountable. The unfortunate reality though is through his 2 seasons as HC, he has practically made the same mistakes as Rex. Terrible in game coach, lacks game awareness and situational awareness, terrible time out and challenge usage, blindly loyal to veterans, and team doesn't look to value or respect his message. I'm not in the locker room so I can't say for certain, but last year these things were mostly covered up by winning. This year Bowles has nothing to mask his inefficiencies. As a HC, you should be progressing and becoming better, I honestly can't say I've seen Bowles improve. Nonetheless, I suppose I am ok with him coming back, but I am also fine with Jets parting ways.
It will be amazing how much better Bowles and Mac. are at their jobs with a good young QB. Hope they found one to build around.
Maybe you should use the eye test? Every game Fitz started this season there as at least 2 or 3 big plays that left on the field that could've resulted in points. Bengals game, Chiefs game, Seahawks game for starters. Do you want to go back to the dark ages with Brian Schottenheimer? Let's not forget Gailey and this offense broke Jet records with an inaccurate QB that operates on 1 read. This just happened last season.
Open your eyes! Go back and watch Gailey's play calling in the RZ this year. Pull up every RZ series for the team this year and I'll be happy to show you how many missed opptys that Gailey left on the table by calling runs up the middle on 1st and 2nd down like a moron and then throwing on 3rd down when every defense in the league knew that they had to throw on that down. You want to talk about missed plays? There were plenty of those because of the ineptitude of Gailey's play calling this year. Do you want that lack of innovation to continue? Strive for better than mediocre from your OC.
When was the last time this offense called and completed an effective slant pattern? Man I miss those.
Since it looks like Bowles will be back, I sure hope you're right. I think Petty will work out and Mac will look like a genius. I wish I felt as confident about Bowles' ability to fix all the issues with the team on the field, but at this point at least, I have little or no confidence in him.
I can show you all of the missed big plays because Fitz wasn't even looking at their direction. To me that is far worse. Gailey wants the ball out of FItz's hands, that's what I get from this. When they let Fitz throw in the RZ, he was missing receivers and turning the football over. You can't tell me after watching Fitz fuck up snap after snap after that Chiefs game, that Gailey had much less confidence in Fitz to get the job done so they tried to run the football? I'm not mad at Gailey for that. Our tackles freaking SUCK, our guards and centers can create holes much better, am I mad at Gailey for running the ball? No.
That was Decker's bread and butter. Besides Q, how many of our receivers are going over the middle besides Marshall?
Fitz fucking up is one thing. However you should be mad at Gailey for his lack of creativity and running the ball straight up the gut over and over and over on early downs in the RZ. Everyone in the stadium knew where those play calls were going and that's a bad thing. That right there is reason enough to make a change at OC. The Jets futility in the RZ cannot be understated and Gailey's horrible play calling is a large part of that Chan's time has clearly passed. You act like he's an invaluable asset here which is false. Time to move on there.
I do think his play design is good. The WRs we have now seem to usually get open, and on the occasions where Gailey makes a good play call, his plays work well. It's just his play calling that sucks. Maybe they could bump him "upstairs" and let him focus on being creative with play design and working with Petty and Hack, and let Patullo or someone else actually call the plays.
