Crabtree could fall to us at 17, making this question moot. You never know. Stranger things have happened. His foot, plus "character issues", which caused dozens of teams to pass on Randy Moss.
the the Original Poster, your a moron. heres the draw to Maclin. having Maclin, Cotchery, Keller, Washington, Stuckey, Clowney on the field at all times. gee maybe thats it, to give Defensive Coordinators nightmares! Maclin is my top pick of who i want on the jets, the next couple choices would be a defensive player, if not I want Knowshon Moreno.
Crabtree is not even in the same league as randy moss. and he should be available at 17 because I think Maclin will be better than him and someone will draft Harvin based off of hype. i want no part of Crabtree. he makes circus catches and drops wide open screen passes. kind of alarming to me.
I'm alittle lost on the comparisions between Maclin and Washington. One is an undersized big play 3rd down RB/KR and the other is an average height big play WR w/ #1 WR potential. I like Maclin alot. He runs very smooth routes, is great after the catch and was very clutch in college. He reminds me alot of Tim Brown and we'd be a very lucky football team if he fell to us at 17.
I buy the hesitations regarding Crabtree. However, if he falls to us at # 17 and Maclin does not...we'd be absolutely FOOLISH to pass. That'd be draft value robbery and you cant deny his upside considering his body control,the way he attacks to the football when catching and his obvious flare for the dramatic. He would fill a HUGE need and makes way too much sense value wise. You take that gamble all day long.
I would love to have Crabtree. Why wouldn't you want that kind of potential at such an obvious hole? Either he or Maclin provides the best value in the draft for us at 17 period. I'll be ecstatic if one falls to us. Like you, I'd go defense or trade if neither does. Gotta correct you on Harvin. Someone will draft him, not on hype, but because of what he can do for a team lacking that explosive, shifty threat out of the backfield and/or slot. He's a great option for a team like Minnesota where he can aid the passing game and take pressure off a traditional feature back.
as far as Harvin goes, he's not anyone i want on the jets in any way shape or form not unless it was a 2nd or 3rd rd pick.(i shouldnt have to worry being hell prolly be a top 12 pick with all the bs hype around him) the guy couldnt even play 12 games in college let alone 16 for a NFL career year in and out. dont get me wrong he'll be a great role player in the return game or the slot and trick plays out the backfield. but I dont ever think he'll be a legit #1 WR. and if he is his injury history is enough to make me laugh at taking him that high. that said if he is healthy, the biggest IF in a while, hell be a solid contributor and Crabtree, ya my response was a bit of a knee-jerk reaction because I dont believe hes worth a top 10 pick, but if he did fall at 17 i wouldnt be angry with the pick. i just think Maclin is WITHOUT A DOUBT the best reciever in this draft. thats where my bias comes in. and seeing that Crabtree for some reason has been a consensus top WR in mock drafts and in so called "analysts" minds im hoping someone takes him, and a team like JAX or OAK bites on Harvin leaving Maclin floating between 12-17. i know naive to think Maclin could fall to 17 but ive seen funnier things in other drafts. point in case im looking for Defense in rd 1. the only offensive prospects id like at 17 would be Maclin/Moreno/Crabtree (although ive made my opinion on him clear he would be BPA at 17 if he somehow fell, im not ignorant enough to say he wouldnt be) im on the fence about sanchez i dunno if he was there at 17 whether id pick him or hold him for ransom and build team depth, prolly the latter option cause i also think Clemens deserves a fair shot and I liked him coming out of Oregon
I agree. Don't get me wrong, I don't want Harvin in the first. I'm not as concerned about the injuries, I just feel he'd be a waste for us as far as the value he'd bring at the pick. Personally, I think Crabtree's potential in the passing game is higher than Maclin's, but he does carry a bit of risk. Maclin could be paired with Leon on returns, and could develop into the #1 receiver we need, leaving Cotchery to fulfill his potential as one of the top possession receivers in the league. He just hasn't had a true 1 to play opposite.
well theyre both sophmores, so to say ones potential is better than the other at this point for me is a draw. the other knock I have on Crabtree is the system hes coming out of. either way theres nothing for us to argue about aside from my WR rankings would be 1. Maclin 2. Crabtree. i think basically what were both saying is go Defense with the first pick and if either one of those WR's were there at 17, jump on it. the biggest wildcard of our whole discussion is Knowshon Moreno, ive watched most of his career at UGA cuz being in FL they play SEC football ad naseum and Moreno is THE LEGIT DEAL. if Moreno is at 17 I fucking want him in a Jets uni. thatd give one of two things. 1. a complete three headed monster backfield. or 2.a reason to tell thomas jones to hit the fucking bricks if he thnks hes going to get payed handsomely for running behind one of the better OL's in the league after getting a frontloaded contract. Moreno is the total package, elusive, powerful, agile, the only thing he lacks is straight line speed. and last time i checked seldomly do you see any NFL runningback run in a straight line to score. and his sideline to sideline speed is severely underrated and is the reason he looks alot faster on film than his 40 time says.
