Like I said...this is a semantics argument. If the two sides were called National Conference and American Conference....this thread wouldn't exist. It's MLB.....bottom line. Both leagues/conferences fall under the same MLB league umbrella. it's not rocket science.
Bill James or Bud Selig said there is not an official record book coming from the MLB office or something. One of those bastards said as much when asked about steroid users' statistics receiving asterisks next to them. I thought the Elias Sports Bureau handled the official records. The Sporting News used to produce official books.
I agree with this. Obviously, semantically there are two leagues. No one will argue that. Technically they're all playing for the same commissioner in the same players union for the same championship of the same league.
I voted two leagues accidentally. If they get rid of that gay-ass interleague play, though, I'd've voted two leagues.
I was opposed to interleague play, but then it came and I found it cool for a couple years and that was it. I wish it would end already, but it's likely here to stay due to good attendance.
I voted two leagues, based on separate rules, but really Yis is right. This isn't mutually exclusive.
Basketball isn't a league, it's an association. Hockey and Football are leagues. Baseball is two leagues. If it were one, it'd be Major Baseball League.
Not completely. I'm willing to bet 96% of the people here didn't know about them disbanding the entities in 2000. Soooo, had we had this debate 10 years ago, everybody would have the same opinion and we, the 2 league people, would be right. Like that logic don't you?
No one argued based on that date, but the logic behind events of the literal disbandment was the crux of devil's argument. Regardless, Cakes really loves this hyper-literal shtick, huh?
there should be one league and it should be the national league. The DH rule is the worst thing that ever happened to baseball. Dumbed down baseball, i honestly dont even know how people watch it.
I disagree. In today's 600 billion dollar contact era, I'd like to see pitchers pitch and hitters hit.
Not really. To be literal, TGG wasn't around ten years ago and many of our current posters were not yet making messageboard posts. I would not have had the same opinion ten years ago, and I somehow doubt 96% of people would. It's utilizing flawed logic to say something like that. If you're a "2 league person", you're wrong in this case, because the options are clearly not mutually exclusive. We're not dealing with "What if we were discussing this in an alternate reality?" hypotheticals, because that's an exercise in futility.
I dont understand how you can say that, in fact, it hurts me for you to say that, hahah. But really, it takes away from so many managerial aspects of the game, baseball is a thinking mans game, are you really content with just seeing homeruns and strikeouts? I honestly have trouble sitting through an entire american league game.
I consider the MLB one league. I view the AL and NL as more of a conference type of segregation. Their titles are misleading. I guess you could argue that the DH rule implies two seperate leagues....
Well if you want to quote Wiki look under National League it says: It is two leagues cooperating in a partnership.
Again, it semantics. You refer to the National league as a league. So in that respect, yeah, it's a league. But they're both operating under one umbrella and playing for a common championship. I'm still waiting for the 2-league folks to point me to the URL for the American League website.
