    That was an insane inning.

So the wild card lead is one game greater than when Seattle came to town. That is acceptable to me.

Hughes looked good (from what I saw). I'm glad to hear people saying he continued to look good after I had to run out (wife thought her water broke... went to hospital... false alarm... sent back home... Hughes already out of the game).

    Keep it up, Yanks. :)

It was nice to see Hughes finally pitch well again, we need more than our top 3 pitching well. Hopefully Hughe can begin to gain some consistency and put together a few quality starts in a row.

I totally agree. I'm actually surprised we got out of this one with a one game improvement. Last night was the kind of game the Yanks need to have. Struggle for the first 2/3, while the pitching holds up, then beat up bullpens. (The question now is, can we continue this level of play beyond this series?)
    --------------------

Torre was MASTERFUL last night. When I saw the starting lineup, with so many of the regulars out, I was FUMING. Then I saw the numbers against Washburn by the guys on the bench. Torre held his guys back until they could be useful, and everyone came through.
    --------------------

Betemit and Molina have been great examples of Cashman late-season gold.
    --------------------

Nice to see Hughes pitch well again. I was hopeful about last night, and he didn't disappoint. Except for one pitch, he was great.
    --------------------

Anyone notice that Mr. April actually drove in enough runs last night to win the game single-handedly? I regret EVER getting down on the guy. The smarter part of my brain knew it was wrong, and I let myself be influenced by the crowd last year. He is BY FAR the best ballplayer I've EVER seen play the game. First time since 1977 a Yankee has hit two HRs in one inning! WoW.
    --------------------

So the Yankees win, the Mets get destroyed, and the Sox lose to Toronto. All is right again in baseball!

J/k, but it was fun to say! Notice we don't see too many Mets or Sox fans in our threads lately?
    --------------------

Congrats Cappy! A baby is on the way huh? Very cool!

I think the bigger factor that you do not see many Mets or Sox fans is that the Mets and Sox are almost assuredly going to be crowned DIVISION CHAMPS, thus the remainder of the regular season is pretty pedestrian ; while the Yankees will have to sweat to be a wild-card contender and then have the priviledge of playing Anaheim as underdogs.

Now we have to put up with Mussina again for at least one Clemens start. That could be a disaster if it's longer then one.

Arod now has the record for HRs by a Yankee right hander. That's a lot of history there in it's own. I think he broke DiMaggios's. When he came to NY the pundits( idiots that they are) said no way in the world he could hit 50 HRs with that left field. Now he gets his 3rd MVP in 5 years, second as a Yankee on a team full of MVPs.

BS. If the Yankees were losing, we'd surely see Shade and Dave in here daily. As soon as the Yankees started winning in July they disappeared.

As for the performance of the Mets and Sox, I still don't particularly give a crap. The only team that matters to me whether they win or lose any particular game is the Yankees. I stopped worrying about the division months ago, so what the Sox do at this point is inconsequential to me. And the Mets are team I don't even think about on a day to day basis, so most of the time, I don't even know whether they won or lost. (I just happened to catch the score rolling on the bottom of the screen during the postgame last night.)

I posted in this very thread 3 days ago. I always read the Yankee threads, and sometimes the Met threads (though usually they're pretty irrelevant to me, being in the NL and all), but I usually don't post in them. I don't have YES so I don't see any of the games, so there's really no reason to comment. I will however respond to comments made in the thread.

Certainly my lack of posts in Yankee threads has nothing to do with the way they're playing, just with not having much to say.

Wow, I really didn't intend for that line to garner multiple responses. It was made as an offhand remark, and definitely wasn't directed at you. That line, including the first sentence, has some significance in the Yankees threads, but not in terms of you.

I just didn't want to start directly calling people out who are notorious for showing up when the Yankees lose, and disappearing when they win.

Heh, I guess, but I don't make it a habit to intentionally start arguments. I'm happy to just jump in midway.

Odd, but that's right. Wonder why they said it last night.

Where did he say that? Unless Cleveland passes the Angels, the Yankees are going to Anaheim for the first round if they win the Wild Card, regardless of whether or not Boston has a better record than Anaheim. You can't play a team from your own division in the first round.
